There are several scams involving Living Trusts perpetrated by non-attorneys such as insurance salesmen, mortgage brokers, and real estate agents. These people usually target the elderly in the community. Carol Renner, elder law attorney gives pointers to avoid these types of scams.

To avoid falling victim to these scams, consider the following guidelines:

Personal Consultation: Do not purchase estate planning services over the phone or internet. Meeting with an attorney in person ensures that your specific needs are addressed.

Red Flags in Advertising: Be cautious of ads that claim authorization in all 50 states, as this is a clear indication that you are not dealing with a licensed attorney.

Fear-Based Marketing: Watch out for marketing tactics that incite fear, trepidation, or a sense of urgency, suggesting that you are missing out on essential planning.

Social Media Predators: Be wary of individuals using social media platforms to exploit your concerns about estate planning.
