**CHILD SUPPORT UPDATES!**

On March 29, 2024, the Georgia legislature passed SB 454! What does this mean to YOU?

1. MANDATORY parenting time deviations: that means that the noncustodial parent will not pay child support for the days the child is in his or her care.

2. Increases the basic child support calculation amounts across the board at nearly all income levels- this is to account for the rise in cost of living.

3. MANDATORY low income deviations for non custodial parents who are under a certain income

4. VA Disability Adjustment: provides for a set-off for any VA disability payment benefits that are paid to the primary custodial parent due to the non-custodial parent’s disability.

Finally, WHEN will these changes occur?

If the Governor signs the bill, it takes effect as follows:

July 2024: #2
July 2026: #1

All the rest will phase in between those dates ^

As we enter the winter months, Spalding County is providing warming stations to assist anyone in need. These stations will only be open during normal business hours and can be found at The Fairmont Community Center and The Flint River Regional Library.

One of our own was killed today. A combat veteran who has served our community for the past twelve years. A deputy well respected by coworkers and well loved by many. Another deputy was injured physically and mentally by watching his supervisor die. It's difficult to imagine the magnitude of this tragedy and the grief that comes along with it- the amount of people it will affect. Our prayers are with the family, friends, and coworkers of the sheriff's deputy who was killed in action today. May we always remember the sacrifices willfully made to keep our community safe.
