A former gold mining town, La Porte today attracts numerous visitors to its superior campsites, fishing holes, and

swimming areas. History buffs and off-road adventurers also can take a self-guided tour of historic mining town sites along forest service roads surrounding La Porte. The area also is well-known for its winter recreation and was the site of the nation's first organized downhill ski racing on 12-foot "snowshoes" in the late 1800s. The La Porte area hosts miles of terrain for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing as well as staging areas and warming huts. The community features the historic Union Hotel Sierra Retreat (open for groups), along with cabin rentals, a resort, a general store, deli, gas station, gift store, tavern, and a small museum. La Porte is accessible from Quincy via the La Porte/Quincy Road (unplowed in winter) or year-round from Marysville via Highway 20 and County Road E-21.

Reilly’s Saloon & Cafe Annual Jeep Run is coming up!

We’ll be at The Mine Shaft in Nevada City on Friday around 3:00–3:30ish.

We need a head count for Friday dinner, so please text us and let us know either way whether you’ll be joining us for the Jeep Run. We’re looking forward to a great weekend on the trails!

We’ll spend the day jeeping around the Sierra City area. If you’re joining us Saturday morning, please arrive at Sierra Pines Resort between 9:00 and 10:00 AM.

After our trail day, we’ll head to Downieville for the night.

Dinner TBD in Downieville.

Sunday, August 16
We’ll find a spot for breakfast, then plan to leave Downieville around 10:00 AM and make our way back to Reilly’s Saloon & Cafe in the afternoon.

If you’d like to join the group in Downieville on Sunday morning, please arrive by 10:00–10:15 AM.
