🍎 From Farm to Tray in Greenville County Schools

Greenville County Schools serves more than 12 million meals a year—but after facing 34 food recalls in one year, leaders knew the food supply chain had to change.

The solution? An innovative farm-to-school partnership with local farmers and the Feed & Seed food hub. With support from a highly competitive USDA SCALES grant, the district now sources and processes South Carolina-grown produce directly for student meals—improving food safety, supporting local farms, and strengthening the local economy.

From sweet potatoes and collard greens to Carolina Gold Rice, this 15-year journey has turned Greenville County into a national model for school nutrition—showing how local solutions can make a big impact. 🌱🥕
