Divorce is difficult and there is no easy road when it comes to your most personal issues. However, we expect the best from our clients and implore each and every client to stay focused on the big picture and expectations within the requirements of the law. We walk each client through the issues that commonly arise with divorce, separation, alimony/spousal support, child custody, child support, and division of assets and debts. We firmly believe that the best resolutions are the ones that can be reached by compromise between two reasonable parties. However, when one side refuses to act reasonably, our attorneys believe in aggressive advocacy for the protection of our clients.

Get out your planners, the 2025-2026 back-to-school countdown is on!

Swipe to read our 5 Back to School Tips to help Co-parents minimize conflict this school year:

1. Prioritize Open Communication when Possible - Discuss ahead of time how you want to keep each other informed this year. Consider scheduling a weekly check - in to discuss any updates or concerns about your children and to keep information located in one place. Consider use of co-parenting apps like "Our Family Wizard." Having a plan removes the guess work and helps co-parents work as a team for their children.

2. Create a Consistent Routine for Children - working to establish consistency and routines between households can be a big benefit to children. Discussing a unified approach to topics such as homework, use of screens/technology, and discipline can help ease the transition for children into a changing family dynamic.

3. Attend School Events and Communicate with Teachers and Coaches - Co-parents have a mutual duty to stay involved with other individuals involved in their children's lives and not simply rely on the other parent for this information. Establish your connection with teachers and coaches early in the year and make sure you receive all of the important emails and updates directly.

4. Use a Shared Calendar and Expense Worksheet - Consider using a shared calendar to be sure both parents have early and routine access to important dates, schedules, and appointments for children. Use of a shared expense worksheet can also be a big benefit for timely tracking and recording reimbursements in one consistent place.

5. Plan Ahead - Use the 'golden rule' and treat the other parent with the same flexibility as you would like to receive. Do not wait until the last minute to give notice or make requests. If legal changes become necessary, be proactive and seek an experienced family law attorney right away.
