It was a magical evening last night with our Pitt County Bar Association gathering with friends and colleagues in the celebration of the holiday season and the retirements of two of our renowned bar members, Charles L. “Sonny” McLawhorn, Jr. and James A. Nelson, Jr. Thank you to all of the members who came out last night and to all of the folks at the Barn at 400 Saint Andrews, Rep Express, and our wonderful small ensemble made up of ECU School of Music musicians, Jonah Smith, Jayden Brown, and Joshua Rorrer. It was certainly an evening to remember!

CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Judge MARVIN KEY BLOUNT III on being awarded the Outstanding Trial Judge Award by the North Carolina Advocates for Justice!

OUTSTANDING TRIAL JUDGE AWARD:
Judge MARVIN KEY BLOUNT III is the Senior Resident Superior Court Judge for North Carolina Judicial District 3A (Pitt County). He was initially appointed in 2009 as a Special Superior Court Judge and subsequently appointed as a Resident Superior Court Judge in 2012 for Judicial District 3A. In 2016, Judge Blount was named by the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court as the Senior Resident Superior Court Judge for District 3A.

Judge Blount has held Superior Court in over 50 counties in the State of North Carolina. He has presided over hundreds of jury trials. Judge Blount has been assigned by the N.C. Chief Justice to a Three-Judge Panels’ review of a North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission case and the member of a Three-Judge Panel to review the constitutionality of certain North Carolina General
Assembly legislation. He has also been designated by the Chief Justice as a Rule 2.1 Judge to oversee Exceptional Civil cases.

PCBA MEMBERS:

Please join us NEXT THURSDAY, April 29th, from Noon-1:30 PM for PCBA's 2021 Wellness CLE Featuring Judge Lucy Inman and Geoff Hulse:

Details are as follow:

Date Time: Apr 29, 2021 12:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Topic: PCBA’s 2021 Wellness CLE featuring Judge Lucy Inman

Description: Over the past year, our legal profession has sustained unprecedented hardships surrounding issues of health, dormant work periods, staffing difficulties, income and the inability to properly interact with colleagues, clients and court officials. Now, as our court system has begun to emerge from the pandemic, new stressors, such as prioritizing and addressing pandemic backlog, are being added to the mix. In our 1-hour FREE wellness CLE, a volunteer from the Lawyers Assistance Program (LAP) and North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge and BarCARES Board of Directors member, Lucy Inman, will draw on their personal and professional experiences to present strategies for identifying and intervening in stressful circumstances so that lawyers and judges can help themselves and their colleagues manage these challenging times. Speakers will outline free and confidential resources available to all Pitt County lawyers from both BarCARES and the Lawyers Assistance Program. Pitt County Bar Association officers will also use this opportunity to introduce a new Pitt County Bar Association program in which events and opportunities will be scheduled periodically throughout the year for local attorneys to have the opportunity to begin meeting again in-person in functional, informal settings.
