O healer of souls, we come to you, Lord, desiring that you would forgive us our sins and heal us from the harm those sins have done to us spiritually. We know that you will not turn away the truly penitent man but will hear him and bury his sins in the depths of the deepest sea. We know you will cast our confessed and forgiven sins behind your back and hurl them into the land of forgetfulness forever. Help us to come to you in true repentance and with faith in your merciful nature. Amen.

The miracle of healing the lame man was amazing in the eyes of the onlookers. And Jesus' words by which he claimed authority to forgive sins were also astonishing to all, and angering to the scribes and Pharisees. Jesus powerfully proved his authority to forgive sins, but many were more focused on the physical healing than on the spiritual healing that had taken place.

Job falls to the ground and worships God during a stormy season of life. His surrender is a witness to all of us. It is crucial to praise God during our struggles because we begin to see miracles and blessings. There are too many occurrences to count and we remain blind to the numerous wonders of God when we remain focused on our problem and not our Creator. We will continue to offer praise and worship through good times and bad.

Teach us, O Lord, to weigh our words and to speak in wisdom, not folly. If we would make a vow to you, let it be only if it is according to your will. Teach us to watch our words when we pray to you and to speak reverently and rightly. Teach us also to speak only truth with our neighbors that we may be men and women of our word. Amen.

We should not be quick to make vows to God; but if and when we make them, we should keep them. If we cannot keep them, we must plead with Him to forgive us and learn to not make foolish vows again in the future. It is better to open our mouths but little, to "let our words be few, " than to promise much and deliver not much.

Lord, let us not be deceived by sinful lusts and be drawn away to live a corrupt life. Instead, help us to actively seek out the remnants of the old man in us, as if on a "search and destroy mission, " using your Word as our only offensive weapon. But that weapon is mighty through God and able to pull down the most well defended fortresses of sin. We are confident in your Word and will run to it for help. Amen.

We are commanded here to actively dismantle the "old man, " our old sinful nature. We are to willingly submit to God renewing our minds and strengthening the new man. Notice that "lusts" (fleshly desires) are "deceitful" and lead to a corrupt conversation. Note that "conversation" as used here is an older English term meaning "conduct or lifestyle. "

A Prayer for Guidance in the New Month

Lord God, You not only know every offense I’ve ever committed, You see all that lies in my future as well. Help me to see every divine appointment that comes my way in this new month. Open the doors in front of me to walk into Your will. Open my eyes to recognize each opportunity to share Your love and the truth of Your Word with someone who needs it. Each day of this new month, chart me a clear path to be obedient to You and to be used for Your kingdom purposes, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant the work may be. Give me a servant’s mindset to see every task in front of me as an opportunity to glorify You so that “whatever [I] do, in word or deed, [I] do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father” (Colossians 3:17 NASB). In Jesus name Amen
