KY 207 Improvement Project Update

Since taking office last January the primary highway plan project I have worked to support has been the long discussed upgrades to KY-207 from the Industrial Parkway running east to Flatwoods. This project has been in the works since 2009/2010.

Beginning this July, funds were allocated in this year’s HB 502 to begin right-of-way acquisition for MP 11 to MP 15. The remaining section (on the east end/Flatwoods area) is expected to have right-of-way acquisition occur beginning in July of 2028 (as referenced in HJR 75 and pending 2028 Road Plan approval). HJR 75 calls for full construction beginning July 2030.

Design work was previously started and is on-going. Additional environmental survey work is being completed and the required environmental documentation is currently being re-evaluated. Upon completion this summer, the final right of way plans can be approved and acquisition efforts can begin. KYTC anticipates these processes be finalized by July or August.

I recognize that this project has taken too long to advance. This was a result primarily of not having adequate funding in the road plan to execute on the project. I understand the frustration from local residents who have been in limbo for years given the impact that it will have.
