Dear Dad’s is one of those local places I keep going back to. The food is SO good, the restaurant itself is adorable, and it has such a fun, welcoming atmosphere.

Today I had the birria bowl and it did not disappoint. And don’t skip the freshly squeezed orange juice. 🍊 Trust me on that one.

Last time I had the birria tacos, so clearly I have a thing for their birria. 😂

My childhood taught me that normal can disappear.

This picture was taken in Dallas in early 2020 at a Keller Williams convention, about a month before the world shut down because of COVID.

I was lying in the grass, enjoying the sunshine, completely unaware of what was coming.

Looking at it now feels different.

I learned when I was eleven years old that life can change in an instant. One day you’re going to school, playing with your friends and living an ordinary life. Then suddenly, the things you never thought twice about aren’t guaranteed anymore.

Peace. Water. Electricity. Food in the refrigerator. Seeing the people you love. Simply being able to go wherever you want.

Maybe that’s why gratitude means so much to me.

My childhood taught me that normal can disappear, and life has reminded me of that lesson more than once.

So I try to notice normal while it’s still here.
The sunshine on my face. A quiet morning. Dinner with people I love. My dogs doing something ridiculous. The ordinary moments we tend to rush through because we assume there will always be another one.

I don’t want to know how quickly life can change to make me afraid of losing what I have.
I want it to make me grateful while I have it.

This is a little piece of something I’ve been working on lately. A story I think I’m finally ready to tell.

Panthers may have lost, but this crew still had a winning day. 🏈💙😂

Great friends, lots of laughs, and Jessica Ussery even brought out the Dolly wig in hopes of making the Jumbotron. 🤣 Sadly, Dolly didn’t get her big-screen debut.

This is probably a more accurate picture of real estate than me standing in front of a SOLD sign. 😂

Calls with lenders. Calls with attorneys. Inspection negotiations. Appraisal questions. Following up with agents. Checking on repairs. Solving the random problem nobody saw coming.

A lot happens between “we’re under contract!” and “here are your keys.”
And most of my job is making sure you don’t have to worry about all of it.

Such a fun Sunday celebrating a dear friend’s birthday at Divine Llama Vineyards! 🦙🍷☀️

Of course, Ena, Hudson and I decided to go see the llamas and somehow took the scenic route… through the grapevines, around the vineyard and basically everywhere except the actual way to the llamas. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ But we eventually found them, Hudson got to feed them, and apparently red velvet cake tastes even better when you wear half of it on your face. 😂

Beautiful weather, lots of laughs and such a fun afternoon with some of my favorite people. ❤️

had a conversation with a good friend a while back who told me something I probably needed to hear.

“You’re a fixer.”

The truth is, I probably already knew that somewhere deep down.

I’ve had friends joke for years that if you need something done, call me. 😂 Need a problem solved? Call Marela. Need someone to figure something out? I’m your girl.
And honestly, I’ve always taken a little pride in that.
I fix problems. I figure things out. I find solutions. If someone I care about is struggling, my brain immediately goes to, Okay, what can I do? How can I help? How do I make this better?

But then he said something that has stuck with me ever since.

“I’m starting to realize that money doesn’t motivate you.”

Which is funny because I’ve told him that plenty of times over the years. But I think he was starting to see what I meant by it.
He started pointing out all the places my energy actually goes.
My family. My relationships. My friends. My clients. People I care about. People who need help.
And yes, apparently dogs that need rescuing too. 😂

He pointed out that I will drop what I’m doing for just about anyone I love. I’ll rearrange my schedule. I’ll figure it out. I’ll take something off their plate. I’ll solve the problem.
And sometimes I’ll do all of that even when it comes at a cost to me. My time. My energy. My peace. My money.
Sometimes way more of myself than I should have given.
Then he said the part that really got me.

I do all of that for everyone else... but I don’t do it for myself.

Well. That one hit. Because he was right.

Somewhere along the way, being the person who could handle things turned into believing I should handle things. If someone I love is struggling, I want to make it easier. If they’re hurting, I want to make it better. If there’s a problem I can solve, I solve it. If I can carry some of the weight for them, I usually do.

And I know that comes from a place of love.

I’ve sold a lot of houses over the years, but I’ve never thought of this job as just selling houses.
Because usually, there’s a whole lot of life happening behind the transaction.

A first home. A divorce. A new baby. A job relocation. Aging parents. An investment. A fresh start. Sometimes something exciting, and sometimes something really hard.

My job is to help you make a really big decision with a little more clarity, a lot less stress, and someone in your corner who isn’t afraid to tell you the truth.
That part of real estate will always be my favorite. ❤️
