This morning at 8:00am on Lawyer Up with Two Guys Named Chris, Lisa will report on several trending legal news stories including: A South Carolina woman died after being struck by an umbrella at a Lake Marion restaurant called Driftwood Grill Home of the Lazy Gator. A strong gust of wind blew the umbrella from a nearby table and it struck the woman, severing her carotid artery. Lisa will discuss South Carolina premises liability law and the restaurant’s duty to secure or remove umbrellas during storms. A Florida family is under daily attack from golf balls from a nearby country club. The balls have shattered car windows, damaged their fence, and hit family members. They are especially concerned about their 18 month old twins’ safety. Lisa will discuss nuisance law and whether the course has a duty to mitigate the barrage of golf balls. She will also explore whether the family assumed the risk by moving near a golf course. In California, a Christian lifeguard who refused Pride flag duties at the Los Angeles Fire Department is headed to trial. He requested a religious accommodation, which was granted, but later removed Pride flags, prompting disciplinary action. Comedian Laura Clery says her refrigerator nearly killed her. Her son climbed on it, causing it to shift. When she tried to push it back into place, it tipped over and pinned her against a kitchen island until firefighters rescued her. Clery says the refrigerator should have been secured to the wall and was negligently installed. A Google employee has been charged with insider trading after allegedly using confidential search data to win $1.2 million on the prediction market app Polymarket. He allegedly placed $2.7 million in wagers on 25 outcomes using nonpublic data accessed through his job. Finally, a Nebraska dog accidentally fired a shotgun while moving around inside a pickup truck parked outside a gas station called The Short Stop. A nearby motorist was injured but survived. No charges were filed, though police reminded the public that transporting a loaded shotgun is illegal.
