When you’re walking through a home, it’s easy to focus on the kitchen, bathrooms and finishes. Don’t forget to look up, too.

Take a closer look at the ceilings for:

• Water stains or discoloration
• Cracks or signs of past repairs
• Peeling or bubbling paint
• Signs of moisture around vents, skylights or other openings

It’s also worth paying attention to the condition of ceiling fans and light fixtures, including whether they appear secure and in good working condition.

You don’t need to inspect every inch of a home during a showing, but taking a few extra seconds to look up can help you notice things worth asking about.
