Ghee, also known as clarified butter, tastes great.

But it still contains a high amount of unhealthy saturated fat, which is recommended to consume in very limited quantities. Certainly not “good fat” as this label indicates.

This is why my firm filed a legal action against this product for misleading consumers which will be posted here shortly.

When you’re paying several hundred to a few thousand dollars for furniture, it may seem like a good idea to pay a relatively small amount more for “peace of mind.”

That’s why many of the national furniture stores try to sell you something called a service contract. While there are technical differences between a service contract and an extended warranty, paying extra for a service contract is almost always a bad idea.

All anyone needs to do is to google the name of the furniture store and complaints, or do the same search on Facebook, for stories like this one.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/680899129452169/posts/1409285549946853/

You’ll find numerous dissatisfied customers who were told by the company the service contract would cover “everything,” from a dog’s chewing up a sofa, to accidental scratches, to any product defects.

While most reports about how service contracts are a ripoff cover home and auto warranties, this is because they make up most of the service contracts sold.

Regardless of whether a service contract is for your car, house, or a couch and table, these are all “Fraught With Peril for Consumers,” according to the New York Times.

According to the NY Times’ story, “Many consumers are complaining of high pressure, misrepresentations, contracts not being fulfilled, refunds not provided and overall just poor customer service.”

This will be familiar to you if you regrettably bought a service contract from one of the national furniture companies, and then realized it would not cover what you were told.

Another story describes how even moving will give them a reason to deny your claim, if they needed any more reasons.

Most well-known furniture retailers in New York will not only sell you a couch and kitchen table, but also something called an "extended protection plan."

The Washington Post was correct, when they tell their readers, "Don't buy it."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/home/2021/10/12/home-services-wasting-money/

One furniture store owner tells potential customers how most "third-party plans have a long list of exclusions."

https://www.biltritefurniture.com/why-dont-we-sell-extended-warranties-or-protection-plans/

This is because they are "nothing more than an insurance policy on your furniture."

https://www.finefurniturelosangeles.com/blog/are-furniture-protection-plans-worth-it/

That means when something goes wrong, be prepared to submit numerous documents and pictures, but good luck getting the repair or replacement you expected.

This is why most furniture protection providers have a high percentage of negative reviews, with places like the Better Business Bureau.

The companies which sell the "protection plans" are bad enough, but many times, the retailer or salesperson receives a high commission for each plan sold. This means they have a lot to gain by promising you it "will cover everything," even though it won't.

Depending on how the furniture protection plan is marketed, like if it is described as for "accidents" or "peace of mind," it could qualify as unlawful insurance, which is against the law.

Furniture Protection Plans are offered by many retailers but are they really worth it? Here's the inside scoop every shopper needs to know before buying.

They will describe its benefits broadly, to cover any type of accidents or damage, "for any reason," such as a dog chewing up part of your new couch, or if a support beam breaks.

In many instances, store representatives may receive bonuses depending on how many customers buy the "protection plan."

This is common in many popular furniture stores in New York, where these "protection plans" are promoted to give the buyer "peace of mind." After all, if you've just spend several thousand dollars on new furniture, a few hundred dollars won't seem like very much.

Unfortunately, these "service contracts," run by a completely separate company, are often worthless. When you go to use it, they will tell you that for one reason or another, the damage to your furniture isn't covered.

Here is a story from a Philadelphia-based news station about the issues customers face when trying to use their furniture protection plan.

Before buying one of these add-ons, find out the name of the company that administers it. Then search online for complaints about that company, and the retailer selling it to you.

Most consumer advocates recommend against these extended protection plans for numerous good reasons, which I'll explore in other posts.

An Action News investigation has uncovered hundreds of complaints about a furniture warranty company.
