The Willis Law Office Associate, Kayla Porter, had an excellent morning in Boyd and Carter Counties. She helped a client successfully expunge old charges today.
The client caught his charges when he was very young. Over the years, he completely turned his life around, stayed out of trouble, supported his family and built a solid record. Kayla presented clear evidence showing he was eligible for expungement and that he was an excellent candidate for it.

Another rewarding day in court.

Today I had a hearing in the new Bath County Judicial Center. It’s an outstanding facility with great people.

Most importantly, I helped a father obtain visitation with his young children after a long period of time apart. Days like this remind me why I became an attorney.

Recent videos involving cases in our community have understandably generated strong reactions and public discussion.
People are entitled to their opinions about what they saw in the footage. At the same time, threats or personal harassment do not help these cases or the justice system as a whole.
These proceedings involved specific legal issues before the court and not full trials on all issues in the cases. In Mr. Stephens’ case, the DUI charge was ultimately (and properly) dismissed after the refusal-hearing concluded.
Our legal system works best when people advocate passionately but remain civil. I would encourage everyone to allow the legal process to continue without threats or personal attacks.
