If you’re late paying off traffic tickets or court fines incurred in Grand Rapids, a program at the city’s district court may offer you a reprieve.

The 61st District Court in the city of Grand Rapids announced a monthlong amnesty program aimed at resolving warrants and settling old court financial obligations while waiving late fees and penalties.

The 2026 Amnesty Program gives all people with adjudicated misdemeanor cases, traffic tickets and civil infractions, including those with bench warrants for failure to pay, the opportunity to pay the original amount of the ticket or financial assessment. All late, bench warrant and show cause fees will be waived for those who qualify throughout the month of June. Bench warrants for failure to appear will also be cancelled for those who pay the full original amount requested by the court.

Just a reminder. now that school is out about the new youth employment laws in Michigan.

Work‑hour limits for minors ages 14 and 15 changed March 31, 2026. These limits align more closely with federal standards. During school sessions from Labor Day to May 31st minors in this age group may work between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for no more than three hours per day and 18 hours per week.

During summer, from June 1st through Labor Day, work may extend until 9:00 p.m., with a maximum of 40 hours per week. Different and generally broader limits apply to 16‑ and 17‑year‑olds, though restrictions on hazardous work and late‑night hours remain in place.

The administrative search provisions of Michigan’s liquor law have been found by a U.S. District Court judge to be unconstitutional.
Count V of the complaint raised a Fourth Amendment challenge to Michigan’s statute and administrative rule that establish an inspection program that allows certain state officials to search the premises of liquor license holders without a warrant and without an opportunity to challenge the search before compliance is required.

A provocative pop-up greets visitors to a small Texas law firm's website: "Has your child been harmed by their school-issued laptop or tablet?" it asks. "Parents assume that Chromebooks and iPads issued by their kids' schools are safe, but they are not."
Hundreds of parents have responded to the intake form, according to Julie Liddell, one half of the husband-wife duo behind the Austin-based plaintiffs' ​law firm, the EdTech Law Center. The lawyers are working to channel data privacy and mental-health concerns about education technology—which has become ubiquitous in U.S. classrooms—into lawsuits.

Meta agreed to settle a major lawsuit on Thursday with a school district in Kentucky over claims that its social networks are designed to be addictive, leading to harm in children. The settlement comes less than three weeks before the case was scheduled to go to trial in federal court in California.

About 1,200 school districts from across the US came together to each sue Meta, TikTok, Snap and YouTube for allegedly fueling a mental health crisis in children. TikTok, Snap and YouTube settled their suits with Kentucky over the past couple of weeks.

Kentwood neighbors are warning others about the dangers of drunk driving, sharing their firsthand experiences before turning their lives around with the West Michigan Sobriety Court program.
The program, based at the 62-B District Court in Kentwood, has been operating for 11 years and has logged 393 total participants.
Its mission is to increase public safety and reduce the number of alcohol related traffic deaths and injuries.
