Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has secured a preliminary injunction against KalshiEx, LLC, stopping the prediction market company from what she said is unlawfully offering online sports wagers in Michigan.
The preliminary injunction requires Kalshi to maintain geofencing to block Michigan residents and those within Michigan's borders from having access to what Nessel said were illegal sports betting contracts.

Nessel said violations of the preliminary injunction would result in a fine of $500,000 per day.

The City of Grand Rapids will put Flock camera and other automated license plate reader systems use under an annual review starting next year, City Manager Mark Washington said on Friday.

Washington said that he will issue an administrative order next month that will put the Grand Rapids Police Department's automated license plate reader system (ALPR) under the City’s Surveillance Technology Policy. It comes after feedback from the city commission and public safety commission.

Officials struggled for years to curb high-speed crashes along a residential corridor cutting through Albuquerque, New Mexico, but simply punishing the lead-footed drivers didn’t seem to work.

What ultimately did was rewarding the law-abiding ones with fewer red lights.

The solution, which the city credits for a dramatic drop in crashes and injuries along one busy stretch of road, is a relatively novel version of a longstanding traffic safety concept commonly known as “rest in red," in which traffic signals default to red until a vehicle approaches. But Albuquerque and Portland, Oregon, took it a step further by adding speed sensors that grant a much earlier green light to drivers traveling at or below the posted limit.

Cities are testing “rest in red” traffic systems that slow speeding drivers and improve safety on dangerous roads.

Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, settled a landmark social media addiction lawsuit on Wednesday brought by dozens of states, according to a court filing.

Meta agreed to pay up to $17.1 billion to the states that sued and add child-safety measures to its platforms. The settlement resolves claims filed by 47 states and cuts short a trial that kicked off last week in Oakland, California. The settlement was approved later Wednesday by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, according to court documents.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit is now in receipt of dueling briefs by the NCAA and a dozen athletes who began college play in 2022-2023, completed four years of eligibility and are now seeking to play an additional season. The briefs debate whether to stay a nationwide injunction permitting thousands of formerly ineligible athletes to return to college sports at the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
While the debate is about antitrust law, at stake are roster spots and playing time opportunities. ”

The firm’s 2019 lawsuit came after the Michigan Department of Civil Rights issued a press release referencing information from the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Hate Map,” which is used to track hate groups.

The state’s release did not mention American Freedom by name, though the linked site identified the firm as an “anti-Muslim” group, and the firm claimed its donors feared the hate crimes unit would investigate the center and expose their identities as a result.

The court said the firm has produced little evidence in seven years to back its claims that a single press release caused any economic or reputational damage.
