Depending on the language of the order, prohibited contact may include calls, texts, social-media messages, showing up in person, or asking someone else to pass along a message.

Even when the other person initiates contact or says it is okay, that does not amend the order.

Read every condition.

Follow it exactly.

Ask the court—not the other person—to change it.

The driver was your friend.

Their insurance company is not.

Passengers sometimes hesitate to ask questions after a crash because they do not want to “go after” someone they care about.

But the practical source of payment for medical bills, lost income, and other losses is often insurance coverage. Asking what coverage applies is not the same as deciding to punish a friend or family member.

Every crash and every policy is different. You can protect the relationship and still learn what options exist.

Your child should not be the messenger.

Not for schedule changes.

Not for unpaid expenses.

Not for complaints about the other parent.

Not for questions about the next exchange.

When co-parenting is difficult, it can be tempting to send a message through the one person both adults will listen to. But that places the child in the middle of an adult conflict.

A workable parenting plan should give the parents a direct, predictable way to communicate—and let the child remain a child.

The police report is important.

It is not the whole case.

It is one person’s summary, usually written before every piece of evidence has been collected or reviewed.

Body-camera footage may add context.
Dispatch records may change the timeline.
Witness accounts may conflict.
Testing records may raise new questions.
The video may not match the words on the page.

A criminal charge begins the case. It does not decide it.

Pain does not disappear just because an appointment was missed.

A gap in treatment can happen because someone had to work, could not find childcare, did not have a ride, or could not get an appointment soon enough.

An insurance company may focus on the blank space in the records. The blank space does not automatically explain why it is there.

If an injury is still affecting you, reschedule when you can. Tell the provider what kept you away. Be honest about what has improved, what has not, and how the injury is affecting everyday life.

Real recovery rarely follows a perfect calendar.
