The building was erected by Grafton State Bank, with construction beginning in 1973 and a grand opening in January 1975, according to News Graphic archives.
The design was selected by Ralph Zaun from among several submitted in a design competition. Zaun, now deceased, was president of Grafton State Bank and the grandson of its founder, Louis Zaun.
The building, once brimming with activity, now houses about a dozen businesses, including a law firm, financial consultant, health care provider and a massage therapist.
