When involved in a car accident:
1. Ensure Safety & Check for Injuries
Stay at the scene: unless it is unsafe to do so.
Check for injuries: to yourself and others.
Call 911: immediately for emergency medical assistance if there are any injuries.

Activate your hazard lights .
3. Contact Law Enforcement
Call the police: (dial 911) to document the scene and conditions.
Get the police report number: if one is issued. If the police don't respond to minor accidents, you may need to contact the California Highway Patrol or a local police station later to file a report.
4. Exchange Information
Get contact information, driver's license numbers, vehicle registration, and insurance details from all drivers involved.
Gather information from witnesses: as well.
5. Document Everything
Take photos of the vehicle damage, accident scene, and any relevant road conditions or traffic controls.
Write down details like the time, weather, traffic conditions, and the events leading up to the collision.
6. Report the Accident
Notify your insurance company: to begin the claims process.
Consider reporting to the DMV: if vehicle damage exceeds a certain amount or if there were injuries, as California law may require it.
