At a networking event, an adult with Down syndrome caught a woman off guard.

The adult wasn't being invited to birthday parties or participating in extracurricular activities. Jaimie Valentini shared how those missed opportunities could lead to loneliness.

A woman listening mentioned that she had a neighbor with Down syndrome, but she'd never considered that part of their experience.

For Jaimie, that reaction wasn't about a lack of compassion. It was about a lack of awareness.

Sometimes, people simply don't know what others in their own community are experiencing.

That's why she believes education is such an important part of creating a more inclusive community.

Before people can recognize where inclusion is missing, they first need to understand the experiences they may have never considered.

I took over a woman's slip-and-fall case that ended with a $750,000 verdict.

She had slipped on ice at a gas station, injuring her wrist and shoulder. Her previous attorney had tried to settle the case for around $100,000 without success.

When I took over, I believed the case was worth more. So I started looking into the lease agreements between the gas station, the petroleum company, and the property owner.

That's when I found something important.

The lease required the gas station to remove all snow and ice from the property.

But the handicap ramp where she fell hadn't been salted. It was covered in ice.

Even after that discovery, the insurance company offered less than $100,000 to settle before trial.

So we took the case to court.

After four days of trial, the jury returned a $750,000 verdict in our client's favor.

That experience sparked my interest in personal injury law, and it's a case I'll always remember.

In 2019, a man came to my office nearly two years after being struck by a box truck while working as a surveyor. The driver had fled the scene, his previous attorney had dropped the case, and time was running out.

He told me there had been no traffic safety measures in place at the construction site. No signs, no equipment, nothing.

Something didn't sound right.

We filed a lawsuit, and during my first deposition, I discovered the contractor was required to create a traffic control plan but had never done so.

Our investigation exposed institutional failures stretching back 20 to 30 years.

What started as a case that was almost out of time ended in an $8.5 million recovery for a man who had nearly lost his life.

And to this day, it's the case I'm most proud of.

After a serious car accident, our client needed to know she mattered.

Patty Gleason survived a terrifying accident. Her car spun, rolled down a hill four times, and ended up in a pond.

The accident left her overwhelmed, dealing with bills and going through some really difficult days.

Katie was there to help her through it, not just with the financial challenges, but with the moments when everything felt overwhelming.

During one of those low points, Katie sent her a package of soup with a simple message:

“We're here for you. Don't give up.”

That gesture meant so much to Patty, and it helped her get through a particularly difficult time.

But what means the most to us is how she described the care she received:

“Katie and the firm have helped me understand that I am just as important as anybody else.”

That's how we want every client to feel when they come to us for help.

Imagine arriving in America as a refugee and needing a job within 30 days.

You're in a new country, trying to figure out things most of us don't even think twice about.

Where do you buy groceries? How do you get around without a car? How do you find work when you're still learning English?

And for refugees facing that 30-day pressure to find employment, there isn't much time to figure everything out.

Some are also dealing with travel loans they need to repay from their journey to America.

Organizations like World Relief help refugees navigate those first months, from finding work to learning how to get around and adjust to everyday life.

But the initial resettlement period can move quickly. After 90 days, families may face the pressure of managing much more on their own.

It can feel like a “sink or swim” situation.

And when you have a family depending on you, you have to find a way forward.

It's a reminder of how much refugees are navigating while trying to build a new life in America.

After an accident, you don't need all the answers before calling an injury attorney.

In fact, getting those answers is one of the biggest reasons to make the call.

Do I have a case? What should I do next? How can an attorney help me?

These are questions you can ask once you've received the emergency medical care you need.

And getting that information early can help you understand your options and protect yourself and your family.

The best part? An injury attorney can answer those initial questions at no charge.

If you've been injured in an accident, contact Feagans Law Group to get the guidance you need.

Most people assume if someone pursues a personal injury case, they’re just looking for a big payday.

Most clients are worried about much more immediate things:

How will the medical bills get paid?
Will they still be able to work?
Could they lose their job?
And what will the injury mean for their family long term?

Those are the concerns driving people to seek justice after an accident.

They’re not looking for an easy payday.

They want to get back to the position they were in before the accident changed their lives.

It’s not about getting rich. It’s about getting justice.

Insurance companies would rather wait years to pay your claim than pay it within months.

The reason comes down to something called the “float.”

The float is the time between when an accident happens and when the insurance company ultimately pays the claim.

A recent study found that this is where insurance companies can make their profit. The longer they can hold onto the money before paying a claim, the longer that money stays in their hands.

That’s why it’s important to remember that the insurance company isn’t there to protect you. They’re protecting their business and their shareholders.

If you’ve been injured in an accident, get legal advice, understand your rights, and make sure you’re protecting your own interests.

If the ER sends you home after a car accident, that does NOT mean you’re not injured.

It means they believe you’re stable enough to leave the hospital.

That’s a very different thing.

You may still have injuries that need treatment.

You may still be in pain.

And you may not know the full extent of those injuries yet.

So don’t assume “I was discharged” means “I’m fine.”

Pay attention to what your body is telling you and get the care you need.

And don’t be afraid to say you’re hurt.

You’re not whining or complaining.

You’re protecting yourself and making sure you’re actually okay.

The full amount of a personal injury settlement isn’t what the family actually takes home.

For many families, learning they’re receiving a large settlement or verdict is an emotional moment. They’re thrilled, grateful, and sometimes even brought to tears by an outcome they never expected.

But even with a good outcome, families still want to know what they’ll actually receive in the end.

Attorney fees, case costs, medical bills, and insurance liens may still need to be paid from that amount.

That’s why we try to give clients hard numbers for what they can realistically expect on the back end.

Having that clarity lets families understand what the outcome truly means for them and gives them peace of mind about the process.
