Statement from Steven Walker concerning Korey Kiger and Walker Kiger, PLLC

In my 20 years of practicing law, I have always conducted my practice in an ethical and moral manner—always putting my clients’ interests first, and I will continue to do so. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Korey Kiger, a former member of Walker Kiger, PLLC.

On September 3, 2025, I immediately reported Korey Kiger to the North Carolina State Bar when I discovered that there were discrepancies in a separate trust account that Mr. Kiger had sole control and authority over, and which contained his clients’ funds. To say that I was shocked, saddened, betrayed, and angered by this discovery would be an understatement. Mr. Kiger had hidden these actions from not only his clients, but from me and others. I trusted Mr. Kiger, and what has transpired was not consistent with the honest, family-oriented individual that I believed Korey to be when I brought him into the office to practice with me. I have worked diligently over the last two weeks to attempt to assist his current clients in pending matters and give all the guidance that I can to assist them through this process. I have been fully cooperative with the State Bar and with law enforcement to attempt to assist his clients.

Most importantly, my deepest sympathies and resolve stand with Mr. Kiger’s clients who have been harmed. I will continue to work diligently to help them through this process to my best ability. I also want to assure my clients that any money they have in my separate trust account is completely accounted for and is safe.

I do not plan on making any further statements at this time to the media, and any media inquiries should be directed to my email.

FAMILY OF STUDENT VACCINATED WITHOUT HIS OR HIS PARENTS’ CONSENT RETAIN LEGAL COUNSEL

Emily Happel, the mother of Tanner Smith, has retained the legal services of Attorney Steven Walker of Walker Kiger, PLLC to represent her and her son’s interests after Tanner was illegally vaccinated without his or his mother’s consent by the Old North State Medical Society, which was working in conjunction with Guilford County Schools.

“No matter what your position is on vaccines, we should all be able to agree that children should not be subjected to medical procedures without their parents’ knowledge and consent,” said Attorney Walker. Attorney Walker continued, “we have made multiple attempts to try to resolve this issue with Guilford County Schools and the Old North State Medical Society and we have been met with nothing but deafening silence. Unfortunately, we have no other recourse than to take legal action against those who so flagrantly violated the rights of Emily and Tanner.”

BACKGROUND

On August 19, 2021, then 14-year-old Tanner Smith was informed by a letter that, because of a cluster of COVID-19 cases among football players at Western Guilford High School, he would need to report for a COVID-19 test in order to continue participating on the football team. Testing was to take place on August 20, 2021.

Tanner was driven to the testing site by his stepfather. His stepfather stayed in the car while Tanner went inside. When Tanner arrived inside, the workers gave him a form to fill out, which Tanner believed to be something related to the test. Unbeknownst to Tanner, there was a vaccination clinic at the location that was jointly ran by Old North State Medical Society and Guilford County Schools.

Prior to injecting Tanner, the staff at the clinic attempted to call Mrs. Happel and receive consent to inject Tanner with a COVID-19 vaccine, but their calls were unsuccessful. They did not attempt to contact Tanner’s stepfather who was on the premises of the clinic. Instead of simply testing Tanner—which was never done--they gave him a COVID-19 vaccine. Tanner did not understand that the staff intended to vaccinate him until he saw a needle. He expected a nasal swab but was injected against his own wishes and his mother’s wishes.

Amazingly, the flier promoting the clinic, which was produced by Guilford County Schools and Old North State Medical Society stated clearly: “Students age 12-17 must have their parent or guardian sign the consent form and bring the completed form to the vaccination site.” Guilford County Schools and the Old North State Medical Society’s zeal to vaccinate a child without consent led them to do so in violation of their own stated and advertised policy, and in violation of Emily and Tanner’s statutory and constitutional rights.
