From the TLF archives (2019) - When 7-11's corporate Goliath threatened their lease, the owners of a third-generation mom-and-pop delicatessen were in for a fight for their lives. The owner of the property left the matter in the hands of the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals to rule on 7-11's variances. The Toner Law Firm was called in to help. Mr. Toner had previously served on the Village of Sea Cliff BZA and as counsel to the Manorhaven, Port Washington BZA, in addition to serving two terms as Manorhaven's municipal attorney. (Seated here on the right, next to Tulip Deli owner Vincent Giordano.) The story was picked up by the media (See comments), and hundreds of members of the community showed up in support of a small piece of Americana.
