What Employers Need to Know about New York State’s Proposed No Severance Ultimatums Act

The New York State Legislature has passed the No Severance Ultimatums Act (S372A/A6480A)(the “Proposed Act”), which, once signed by Governor Hochul, would establish notice requirements and minimum review and revocation periods for certain employment severance agreements. If enacted, the Proposed Act would add Section 215-d to the New York Labor Law and take effect immediately. Below is a summary of the proposed requirements.

Ms. Azevedo is Of Counsel in the Lending Department at Jaspan Schlesinger Narendran LLP, bringing more than a decade of experience in commercial real estate finance and agency lending. She represents Fannie Mae DUS and Freddie Mac lenders, borrowers, and sponsors in complex multifamily transactions, including conventional and affordable housing deals. Her practice encompasses joint venture structuring, mezzanine and preferred equity components, cash management, title and survey analysis, and regulatory compliance.

Her career reflects extensive experience across both law firm and in-house environments. Prior to joining JSN, Catherine was a Partner at a prominent New York City-based law firm. She also held senior legal positions with various financial institutions including agency lenders, a multinational investment bank and financial services firm, and a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) lender. Throughout her career, Catherine has led transactions from inception through post‑closing, training legal teams, and contributing to firmwide client development and industry initiatives.

Catherine is bilingual in English and Tagalog and fluent in Spanish.

Election Day Readiness: Steven R. Schlesinger Moderates Nassau Academy of Law Program

Last night, Jaspan Schlesinger Narendran LLP Partner Steven R. Schlesinger moderated The Nassau Academy of Law's October 7th program, "Court Orders for Voting and Other Issues at the Polls."

Held at the Nassau County Bar Association, this CLE brought together a bipartisan panel to prepare attorneys for Election Day procedures, court applications for voter eligibility, and real-world polling-place challenges.

Kudos to see Steve for leading such a timely and informative discussion.

Held at one of Long Island’s historic Gold Coast estates, the celebration featured cocktails, music, dancing, and a tribute to our nation’s 250th anniversary, honoring the places and stories that preserve our shared history. Jaspan Schlesinger Narendran LLP mourns the passing of the Hon. Alan J. Schwartz, a respected member of the Nassau County legal community and a valued colleague and friend.

A 40-year member of the Nassau County Bar Association, Judge Schwartz dedicated his career to the law and to public service - including his service as Associate Village Justice of Centre Island and Huntington Bay and as Chair of the NCBA’s Real Property Law Committee.

His commitment to the Bar, the judiciary, his profession, and the communities he served leaves a lasting legacy.

We extend our deepest condolences to Alan’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

BROTHERS AFTER WAR: AN AFTERNOON OF SERVICE, SACRIFICE & BROTHERHOOD

What an incredible and impactful afternoon.

Jaspan Schlesinger Narendran LLP was honored to support the organizations that brought the screening of the documentary Brothers After War to Long Island — a powerful and deeply meaningful event that brought together veterans, first responders, filmmakers, families, and members of the community to share stories of service, sacrifice, perseverance, the bonds that endure long after combat, and the challenges many face when returning home.

From the screening of Brothers After War to the thoughtful and moving seminar that followed, the afternoon provided an important opportunity to listen, learn, reflect, and recognize the experiences of those who have served our country. The partnership between Paws of War and the Cradle of Aviation Museum, with support from the Gary Sinise Foundation, resulted in a truly memorable afternoon.
