Lemmon & Hale Celebrates Successful Resolution of $2.8 Million EEOC Case

Lemmon & Hale is pleased to have represented four employees in the recent $2.8 million EEOC settlement involving Los Alamos National Laboratory and allegations of religious and disability discrimination related to the COVID-19 vaccination.

We worked alongside the EEOC to help bring our clients' claims to a successful resolution and are grateful to have played a part in this significant outcome.

Hiring this fall? Keep reading, because Virginia's new pay transparency law changes how you advertise open roles.

As of July 1st, employers across the Commonwealth must include a wage or salary range in every public and internal job posting, whether it's a new position, a promotion, or a transfer.

This applies to businesses of nearly every size, and it also bars asking candidates about their pay history. If a listing falls short, you have 15 business days to fix it after written notice, though building the habit now saves the headache later.

Does your leave policy line up with Virginia's new paid sick leave law?

Under the law Governor Spanberger signed this spring, most Virginia employers will soon need to let workers earn paid sick time, roughly one hour for every 30 worked, up to 40 hours annually. Any earned time an employee doesn't use rolls into the following year, so it banks rather than disappears.

The rollout is staggered by company size: businesses with 50 or more employees start July 1, 2027, those with 25 or more follow in January 2028, and everyone else comes on board January 2029.
