On July 9, 2026, Central California Legal Services (CCLS) had the pleasure of co-hosting the inaugural State Bar convening, “Rural Justice in the Central Valley and Beyond,” in Fresno alongside the State Bar of California’s Office of Access and Inclusion and the Legal Aid Association of California (LAAC).

The event welcomed nearly 80 attendees, including representatives from rural and urban IOLTA-funded legal aid organizations, community-based organizations, and justice partners from across California. Discussions explored a wide range of issues impacting rural communities, including artificial intelligence, immigration access, sustainable rural legal pipelines, and collaboration with community partners.

The convening highlighted the urgent legal needs facing rural and inland communities and served as the launch of the State Bar’s California Access & Inclusion Lab (CAIL), an initiative focused on advancing access to justice through research, policy analysis, strategic engagement, and a focus on rural justice.

CCLS was honored to bring together advocates, legal service providers, and community partners to strengthen collaboration and elevate the unique challenges facing rural communities. The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback by the State Bar’s Office of Access and Inclusion.
