A suffix.
An x-ray of a Baroque painting.
A place name painted on the ground in Ajijic.
A nearly erased Indigenous language.
A machine that confabulates.

And me, unfortunately, noticing that humans do it, too.

So, this morning, I’m on my way to work downtown. Must’ve been around 9 a.m. or so, I think.

And I get stuck behind a cop at a red light at Kern & Van Ness.

The light turns green. But the cop doesn’t move. I wait a bit.

Then I realize he’s busy texting.

Yep. Texting. And he’s apparently not going to look up until he’s fu***ng done.

So I laid on the horn. He looks at me in his rear-view. And so I say, “WTF is WRONG with you?!”

He just drives off like nothing happened.

Because nothing did happen except that one more cop showed his disrespect for the law and his belief that those laws don’t apply to him.

Watch them as you go down the road. You’ll notice that they ALL will break several traffic laws right in front of your eyes. Because they don’t give a s**t. They know that no one is going to stop them.

Not even their entitled bosses.

This is why I will always fight for there to be less money for cops and fewer cops. I will always fight to expose them for the parasites that they are.

It’s not that ACAB all the time. They aren’t. Sometimes they can even be decent human beings.

It’s just that THEY decide when they’re going to do that. And when, after all, they’re just going to be bastards.

🚨 Attention Parents: Fresno Enforces Strict 10 PM Summer Curfew—Should Merced Do the Same?

Summer is officially here, but in Fresno, the late-night street lights come with a strict warning.

Starting June 11, 2026, the Fresno Police Department launched a massive summer crime suppression operation.

The goal? Crack down on violent crime, curb dangerous street racing and traffic offenses, and keep local youth out of harm's way.

Central to this crackdown is a reminder of a rule already on the books: Fresno’s juvenile curfew ordinance is in strict effect every single night from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

What Parents Need to Know

If you have kids or teens under 18 in Fresno, they cannot legally be out in public spaces during those hours unless they meet specific legal exceptions (like coming home from a job or an official school/religious event).

Local authorities emphasize that this isn't about writing tickets—it's about safety.

Late-night hours carry a significantly higher risk for violent crime and reckless driving. By enforcing the 10 PM boundary, police hope to prevent teenagers from accidentally finding themselves in dangerous situations.

Looking for safe summer alternatives? The Fresno Police Department and city partners are encouraging families to utilize late-night and daytime programming through local hubs like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County, ensuring teens have a safe, productive space to hang out.

The Big Question: Should Merced Follow Suit?

As our neighbors just an hour north down Highway 99 ramp up policing to protect their youth, it raises an important question for our own community: Should Merced implement or strictly enforce a similar summer curfew crackdown?

Like Fresno, Merced sees its fair share of summer teenage activity, cruising, and late-night gatherings. A dedicated curfew sweep could offer several pros and cons for our city:

The Pros: It gives Merced police a clear tool to intervene before trouble starts, potentially lowers late-night vandalism or property crime, and pushes parents to maintain tighter loops on where their teens are after dark.

The Cons: Critics often argue that strict curfews unfairly target youth who aren't doing anything wrong, strain police-community relations, and simply shift activity indoors rather than addressing the root causes of youth crime.

Merced already has general curfew codes on the books, but a highly publicized, active enforcement campaign like Fresno's would be a major shift for the summer season.

What do you think?

Would a strict 10 PM summer curfew make Merced streets safer for everyone?
Or should the city focus more on funding late-night youth centers, parks, and sports leagues instead of increased policing?
