Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano has stated the agency aims to halve in-person field office visits in 2026. While the SSA says no offices will close, advocates have raised real concerns about older and rural Americans who depend on in-person help. If you've historically managed SSA business in person, now is the time to set up your online account.

Chronic pain. Depression. Autoimmune disease. Heart conditions. None of these look like what most people picture when they hear the word "disabled." That's exactly why so many people who qualify for SSDI never apply — they don't think they "look" sick enough.

The SSA's standard isn't whether you look disabled. It's whether you can sustain consistent work given your medically documented condition. That's a very different bar than the one most of us carry in our heads.

What's one thing about living with your condition that people wouldn't guess from the outside? Comment below — you might be the reason someone else finally applies.

Disabled Adult Child (DAC) benefits pay monthly checks to an adult child based on a parent's work record — not their own. Eligibility: the disability began before age 22, and the parent is retired, disabled, or has passed away. It can continue for life.

It's one of the most underclaimed Social Security benefits in the country, mostly because nobody tells families it exists until someone happens to ask the right question.

Tag a parent of an adult child with a disability — this could be news worth sharing today.

The SSA frequently reviews public social media during active disability claims, and investigators can pull tagged photos and check-ins going back years. The fix isn't deleting everything — it's making accounts private, auditing tagged photos, and asking family not to tag you while your claim is pending.

There's a specific kind of fear that comes with an unopened envelope from Social Security. It's not really about the paper — it's about what it might mean for your bills, your family, your sense of control.

Here's what we want you to know if that fear is familiar: the SSDI system exists because life doesn't ask permission before it changes. 1 in 4 of today's 20-year-olds will become disabled before retirement, according to the SSA's own data. It's not rare. It's not someone else's problem.

If there's a letter you've been avoiding, you don't have to open it alone.

What's the hardest part of dealing with SSA paperwork for you? Tell us below — we read every comment.

ABLE accounts let a person with a disability save up to $20,000 a year without losing SSI or Medicaid — funds don't count against the usual $2,000 asset limit. In 2026, eligibility expanded to anyone whose disability began before age 46 (it used to be 26), opening this up to roughly 6 million more families.

For parents who've spent years being told "don't save too much, it'll cost them their benefits," this is the tool that changes the math.

If this might apply to your family, we're happy to walk through it — call (559) 439-9700 for a free consultation.
