Kentucky Estate Fact:
A will does not avoid probate by itself. It tells the District Court who gets what. Joint accounts, survivorship deeds, payable-on-death designations, transfer-on-death titles, and some trusts are what actually keep property out of probate. People mix those two ideas up all the time.

You’ve lived with someone for 10, 15, even 20 years. The house is in one person’s name. The cars and bank accounts are mostly in one name.

If that person dies without a will, the surviving partner often gets nothing.

Kentucky law does not recognize unmarried partners the way people assume. Blood relatives can step in and take everything. This situation happens more often than people think.
