We’re pleased to share that MetroWest Legal Services is currently hiring a Staff Attorney for our Immigration Unit.

This is an opportunity to join a dedicated team providing critical legal representation to noncitizens in humanitarian immigration matters, including asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), VAWA, T visas, and U visas. The role will primarily focus on representing clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court, with additional work on affirmative immigration cases.

We are proud of our Immigration Unit. It's a collaborative, thoughtful, and deeply committed group of advocates, and we welcome applicants who are passionate about this work.

Our office is based in Framingham, conveniently located near Route 9, the Mass Pike, and Route 495. We offer a hybrid work model, with staff in the office two days per week.

Please feel free to share this opportunity with your networks as we work to find the right addition to our team.

MWLS mourns the passing of the Honorable Edward F. Donnelly, Jr. Judge Donnelly sat in the Marlborough Session of the Middlesex Probate and Family Court for many years before becoming First Justice for Middlesex County. Many MWLS attorneys appeared before him for many years and he was an intelligent, fair and compassionate jurist. He was also a friend to MWLS, training many new lawyers as part of our annual Family Law Basics training and assisting in any way he could. He had a sharp wit and always a good story to tell. He will be missed. Condolences to the Donnelly family and the Middlesex Probate and Family Court Family.

No one should have to face eviction alone.

In Massachusetts, most low-income tenants go to court without legal representation, while landlords almost always have it. That imbalance can determine whether someone is able to stay in their home.

The Access to Counsel program helps address this gap by funding full legal representation for low-income tenants. That means clients receive legal support from the very first notice of eviction from a landlord, all the way through the court process, and through trial if needed.

Our colleague Dan Daley, Senior Housing Attorney at MetroWest Legal Services, recently spoke about what’s at stake:

“Without programs like this, you’re going back to the way it was, where maybe 5 percent of unrepresented tenants are having a good outcome and the other 95 percent are not. Not because they don’t have a good case, but because they weren’t able to explain it well enough to the court.”

Expanding access to counsel is about fairness, stability, and ensuring people have a real chance to be heard when their housing is on the line.

We’re proud to support this work and the continued effort to strengthen housing stability in our communities.

Senior Staff Attorney Emmylou Manwill organized the American Immigration Lawyer's Association (AILA) of New England National Day of Action in Washington DC last week where they visited with Congresswoman Katherine Clark, Senator Ed Markey, Congressman Seth Moulton and others to advocate for finding a better way on immigration. They also witnessed the House successfully advancing Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s discharge petition that would extend vital legal protections for approximately 350,000 Haitians in the U.S.
