On October 7, 2025, I woke up and prayed asking God to do His Will as I do every day. By 830am, I was sitting in a courtroom in the Fifth Circuit waiting for my case to be called. We were the third case. I knew the importance of what I was doing that day and what it meant for my client and her children. Three weeks ago, I called a Houston attorney to conference with her on a separate federal case and she growled at me and said, “What are you doing in Federal Court? You’re just a Family Lawyer.” That phone call ended up with her hanging up on me. Yesterday, aftera year, I finally hung my certificate admitting me to the Fifth Circuit thinking about when this opinion might come through. That was just yesterday. Earlier today, July 9th, the opinion from my October 8th oral argument came through my email. The panel unanimously affirmed the district court’s ruling. We Won. When I called my client, she sounded like she did not want to hear from me. The nervousness in her voice was undeniable. I cut that pain in her voice. Without missing a beat, I told her not to worry—that we had won. Her sigh of relief comforted me. Then fell silence—followed by gratitude. Tonight, I’ll sleep knowing that her children are safe and can stay in this country with their mother. Tonight, I gave my mom a kiss on the forehead and I pulled Eliza towards me to kiss her beautiful cheek good night. Sebastian came down, checking on all of us and telling us good night. Eliza and Sebastian are 13 years apart. My client’s children are 13 years apart and their bond is undeniable and reminds me of my own children. I may just do Family Law, but that means something more than most people will ever know.

Final Chapter: Family Complete! Thank you to Judge Newell of the 233rd for completing this endeavor which began years ago and granting this adoption of the family’s little boy after they adopted his sister a few weeks ago. Congratulations to Yolanda on making this adoption happen for this family and grateful for Irene interpreting for everyone. So blessed to represent these babies and witness the beauty of the kindness of others in loving these children and making them their own. Wonderful way to celebrate their love. Adoption granted, family complete! ❤️✅

Thank you to Judge Wagner and the whole staff of the 323rd for making this day so special and for uniting this family forever. From courtroom decorations to the gifts for babygirl, it was beautiful and appreciated. It is a special blessing to continue to do God’s Will representing these babies and to watch my colleagues work together bringing light to the world. Excellent job, Yolanda on making this adoption happen for this family and to Irene to being there to make sure nothing is lost in translation. Part II coming up in a few weeks!
