This month, Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT) partnered with the San Angelo Association of REALTORS and other community organizations to offer free public education on critical landlord-tenant matters. LANWT's Equal Justice Works Fellow, Hannah Greer (center), was part of an ⭐ All-Star ⭐ panel that discussed recent Texas law updates affecting tenants, the eviction process, and tenant rights. LANWT Attorney Benjamin Gerzik argued our tenant’s case is a constitutional civil-rights matter that belongs before a judge. “I want [tenants] to know they have rights—not just under the property code, but under the constitution—and if a landlord, the government, or a private utility chooses to not respect those rights, they better be ready to fight like hell.” https://www.kcbd.com/2026/07/01/lubbock-tenant-lawsuit-over-utility-shutoff-moves-new-phase/

Thank You for Making the 26th Annual Women's Advocacy Awards a Record-Breaking Success!

Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped make this year's Women's Advocacy Awards an unforgettable evening.

A special thank you to our 2026 WAA Co-Chairs, Lindsey Barker-Willis and Mackenzie S. Wallace, whose outstanding leadership, dedication, and vision guided this year's committee and helped make the event our most successful Women's Advocacy Awards to date.

Because of the generosity of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, honorees, committee members, and attendees, we celebrated several milestones:

✨ $189,513 Raised (and counting)
✨ 255 Guests in Attendance
✨ 41 Sponsors
✨ 20 Dedicated Volunteers
✨ 6 Outstanding Honorees Recognized

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Honorable Martin Hoffman and the Honorable Rachel Craig for allowing 19 summer law interns to volunteer at the event. Their professionalism, enthusiasm, and willingness to serve contributed greatly to the success of the evening.

Together, we are helping ensure that access to justice remains available to low-income individuals and families across North and West Texas.

Thank you for being part of this incredible mission.

Free legal assistance is available to eligible families involved with CPS. Research shows that when families have access to legal information and advocacy early, they are better equipped to understand their rights, navigate the child welfare system, and access the support they need.

Legal Aid Offices Closed June 19
Our offices are closed Friday, June 19 as we honor Juneteenth Day. Special shout out to Fort Worth’s Opal Lee, known as the Grandmother of Juneteenth, who worked tirelessly for years to draw attention to the importance of Juneteenth and to make it a national holiday. "I’m hoping that Juneteenth will not just be about festivals, but that it will be about uplifting each other." Opal Lee
