Prosecutors were forced to review hundreds of cases, and at least one murder conviction was vacated as a result of Yvonne Woods’ misconduct.

Cody is excited to present a CLE called **“Lawyer Wellness: I’m Crazy, Too! Let’s Hang Out — How to Take Care of Each Other and Ourselves.”**

Our profession exposes people to trauma, conflict, enormous responsibility, long hours, substance abuse, depression, perfectionism, and the expectation that no matter what is happening in our lives, we show up tomorrow and perform.

So I want to have a conversation about it.

Not a “wellness” lecture about yoga and bubble baths. A real conversation about what happens when lawyers struggle, what our ethical obligations are when impairment begins affecting the practice, and what we can actually do when we realize a friend or colleague isn’t doing well.

One thing I’ll be asking everyone to consider is making an **eight-minute pact** with two or three people they trust. The idea is simple: if either person ever asks, *“Do you have eight minutes?”* it means, *I’m having a difficult time. I don’t necessarily need advice or solutions. I need somebody I trust to give me their attention for a few minutes.*

Our profession asks a lot of us. Caring for ourselves isn’t abandoning those responsibilities. And paying attention to the people practicing alongside us isn’t somebody else’s job.

Sometimes we just need to be willing to ask for eight minutes—or give them.

Partner Cody Cofer joined WFAA last night to break down the latest developments in the Karmelo Anthony case, where a new defense team has filed motions seeking a new trial and the recusal of the trial judge.

Post-trial motions like these are among the least understood stages of a criminal case. Cody walked WFAA viewers through what the assignment of senior Judge Sid Harle means for the proceedings, how off-the-record agreements between prosecutors and defense attorneys typically work, and whether the defense's claims could form legitimate grounds for appeal.

Cody is Board Certified in Criminal Law and Appeals by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and spent years as both a state prosecutor and an Assistant Federal Public Defender before entering private practice. That experience on both sides of the courtroom is why reporters call him when a case demands real explanation, not speculation.
