Behind every appeal is a real person, a real family, and an outcome that can change someone’s life. ❤️

In this clip from Civility Wins: The Family Law Edition, Amy Shield, an AV-rated Florida appellate attorney, shares a case that has stayed with her throughout her career—a mother who had lost custody of her son and wanted nothing more than the chance to spend Christmas with him.

After the case was successfully reversed and the mother was granted a new trial, she was able to have her son with her for Christmas.

🎄 For Amy, being able to help make that moment possible is one of the reasons her work as an appellate attorney is so meaningful.

The paperwork is signed. The court dates are over. The crisis has passed. Then comes the question no one really prepares you for...”What now?”

For many people, that’s when the reality of divorce truly sets in. The routines have changed. The future looks different. And grief doesn’t follow a straight line.

Some days you feel hopeful. Other days you wake up and think, “I can’t believe this is my life.”

The truth is, healing isn’t linear.

In this episode of Civility Wins: The Family Law Edition, Mary Owens shares why giving yourself permission to grieve, grow, and rediscover who you are after divorce is one of the most important parts of the journey.

💜 Your next chapter doesn’t have to look like your last. It can become something even more meaningful.

Caregiving is one of the greatest acts of love—but it can also be one of the hardest.

Many parents say, “I never want my child to have to take care of me.” Yet for so many families, that becomes reality.

With caregiving often comes emotions we don’t expect: anger, guilt, sadness, feeling overwhelmed, even resentment. And then comes another layer... wondering if it’s wrong to feel that way.

The truth is, those feelings are normal. Acknowledging them doesn’t mean you love your family any less, it means you’re human.

In this episode of Civility Wins: The Family Law Edition, Mary Owens shares why normalizing these emotions is one of the most important steps toward caring for both your loved one and yourself. 💜

Even as a therapist, Mary Owens wasn’t prepared for what divorce would feel like when it became her own reality.

She spent years helping others navigate life’s hardest transitions, but when she found herself going through a divorce, she realized something powerful:

“When it’s happening to you, it’s much different.”

That’s why having the right support system matters. During divorce, emotions can cloud even the best judgment. Having trusted professionals to help you process, plan, and move forward can make all the difference.

If you’re facing a difficult transition, know this: you don’t have to navigate it alone. 💜

Sometimes the experiences that shape us the most become the reason we choose the work we do. ❤️

In this conversation, Renzo shares how the loss of his best friend, Patrick, changed the way he views financial planning and why it’s about so much more than numbers.

Financial planning isn’t just about building wealth. It’s about creating stability, reducing stress, protecting the people you love, and finding peace of mind during life’s most difficult moments.

Behind every financial decision is a story. When we start recognizing the connection between our financial well-being and our mental well-being, we can approach both with more empathy, intention, and care.

We put a lot of emphasis on taking care of our physical health, and that’s a good thing.
But true well-being goes beyond what’s visible.

Our mental and financial health deserve the same attention, the same compassion, and the same willingness to have honest conversations. Yet those are often the topics people feel the most uncomfortable talking about.

The reality is that all three are connected. When one suffers, the others often do too.
The more we normalize these conversations, the more we create space for people to ask for help, find support, and realize they’re not alone.

Let’s stop treating mental and financial health as taboo. They deserve a seat at the table, too. Listen to the full conversation with Renzo through the link in our bio.
