We are proud to share that our Founder and Managing Partner, William R. Scherer Jr., has been named to Florida Trend's Legal Elite Notable Managing Partners list for 2026.

This recognition reflects more than five decades of work. Bill founded Conrad & Scherer in Fort Lauderdale in 1974 and has spent every year since building a firm defined by high-stakes litigation and a genuine commitment to clients who need it most.

In 2025, Bill led the trial team in Gopher v. Wells Fargo, where a Broward County jury returned an $826 million verdict against Wells Fargo for mismanaging a trust established for children of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The court later entered an amended judgment exceeding $1.25 billion, the largest of its kind in Broward County history.

That same team is now in active litigation against Lennar over hundreds of homes built on tribal land that families cannot safely live in.

Beyond the courtroom, Bill established the Pathways to Careers in Law Program in partnership with Nova Southeastern University and Fort Lauderdale High School, giving students direct access to legal professionals and a real path into the profession.

Bloomberg has published a major feature on the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s lawsuit against Lennar, a case Conrad & Scherer is handling on behalf of the Tribe.

The article details allegations involving defects in more than 500 homes built across six reservations, including reported mold, water intrusion, roofing issues and other serious construction concerns.

For residents, the case is deeply personal. One tribal member told Bloomberg that after months of roof repairs, buckling floors and mold spreading through the home, “I feel like the mold just ran us out of our own home.” She added, “We’re all spread out now, and that’s not our goal. We wanted to keep our community together.”

Beyond the construction claims, Bloomberg highlights the broader stakes of the case: tribal sovereignty, accountability and the future of safe housing for Seminole families.
