After spending decades as part of a couple, one of the most unexpected questions following divorce can be: Who am I now? Your identity may have become intertwined with your marriage, your family and the life you built together. Rediscovering yourself doesn’t happen overnight ... and it doesn’t mean forgetting the life you had.
Start small. Create new routines that give your days some structure. Reconnect with friends. Return to an interest you once enjoyed. Try something you’ve always wanted to do. Travel somewhere new. Take a class. Volunteer. Or simply get comfortable spending time on your own. Parts of yourself may have been put aside during your marriage. This can be an opportunity to rediscover them...and perhaps discover some entirely new ones. The end of a long marriage changes your story.
It doesn’t mean the best chapters have already been written.
