Today starts the First Day of Summer. Can the weather get any stranger than this year's?
Honestly… I’m not complaining. I am wondering what comes next? I think I'll just go take a drive and revel in the beauty of the Poudre Canyon.

Coco’s Corner 💛

Juneteenth is a reminder that progress often happens because people before us were willing to carry hope, resilience, and vision farther than their own lifetime.

I think about that sometimes when I watch younger generations growing up in a world that looks different than the one many people before them fought to create.

Real progress rarely happens all at once. It happens slowly through courage, opportunity, education, perseverance, and people refusing to believe things have to stay the way they are.

That kind of progress deserves to be remembered and respected.

There is something I love about seeing a downtown full of people. Families walking together, friends meeting for dinner, children playing, people slowing down for a little while and enjoying where they live.

It reminds me that so much of life is built in ordinary places and ordinary moments. The walk after dinner. The conversation on a patio. The evening you almost stayed home but were glad you didn’t.

Those are the things we are really protecting when we talk about planning. Not just documents. Not just assets. The life you have built, the people you love, and the community you are part of.

Good planning is not about expecting the worst. It is about caring enough to protect what matters most.

I have seen this happen in families more than once. A hard moment comes, maybe a hospital visit, a death, a bank appointment, or a child trying to help a parent, and then someone says, “I thought you had that.” Someone else says, “No, I thought you did.”

That is when stress can turn into conflict. Estate planning is not just about who gets what. It is about giving the people you love authority, direction, and fewer things to fight over when emotions are already high. Good estate planning helps when your family and loved ones are going through a hard season. Planning doesn’t just protect assets. It protects relationships during difficult moments.

Coco’s Corner 💛

Some of the best moments don’t require anything from me, except my attention and awareness. Just sitting there watching the grandkids swimming was more than enough. There was no agenda, no task list, no rushing around, or trying to turn the moment into something bigger than it is.

It was just being there,; being still; recognizing the gift of peace.

When I was younger, I didn't think much about peace. I was moving so fast and slowing down was not an option. It wasn't even desirable. I held the false belief that I couldn't slow down until everyone else and every thing else was taken care of. Slowly I began to learn that wasn't true.

I had to look for and find peace. Peace was right in front of me. I just had to look for it.

What does peace look like? It looks like sunlight on the water; kids laughing in the background. A chair pulled close enough to watch the people you love most just enjoy being themselves. Nothing extraordinary happening really. It is the realization that everything that matters is right in front of you.

I think people are craving steadiness right now. The world out there seems financially uncertain and emotionally reactive. Gas prices fluctuate daily. Money feels tighter. Families are carrying a lot. That may be why I am seeing more people getting their legal and financial affairs in order.

After working with families for so many years, I can tell you that those people that leave a mess behind don't do so because they did not love their family. They leave a mess because they didn't know what to do. They didn't know who was supposed to step in when a medical crisis occurred. They didn't know who had the authority to make decisions. They didn't know where the important documents were or how to access bank and financial accounts. Those are not small questions when a family is already scared or grieving.

There comes a point in life when peace of mind matters more than appearances. There is something very steadying about knowing your family would have clarity instead of confusion if life suddenly changed.

That is one of the quiet gifts of estate planning.

Lagoon concerts are one of those Fort Collins summer traditions that people keep coming back to year after year.

On Wednesday nights, families, friends, students, and neighbors gather at the CSU Lagoon with lawn chairs and blankets while live music plays across the water. Kids run around, people settle into conversations, and for a couple of hours the whole place feels relaxed in a way that’s getting harder to find these days.

You don’t need tickets or a big plan. You just show up, find a spot, and enjoy the evening.
The 2026 Lagoon Concert Series runs Wednesdays from June 10 through July 22 at the CSU Lagoon in Fort Collins.

If you’ve never gone, summer is a good time to start.

Coco’s Corner 💛

I took this photo on the first evening of 2026; the very first sunset of the year. At the time, it didn’t feel symbolic or profound. It was quiet. Just another day ending. But I remember standing there longer than I normally would have.

I think as you get older, you stop needing every meaningful moment to announce itself. You realize some of the most important shifts in your life happen quietly. A conversation that changes your perspective. A boundary you learn to keep. A peaceful evening you don’t rush through. A realization that you’re no longer living with the same urgency you once did.

That’s what this sunset reminds me of now.

Not the beginning of a year, but the feeling of finally understanding that life is not built in the big dramatic moments people post about. It’s built in the ordinary days you were present enough to notice while they were happening. And honestly, I think that kind of awareness is its own form of gratitude.

Have you ever noticed how much energy people spend trying to be understood by people who have already decided not to understand them. When I was younger, I probably did some of that myself. You think if you explain yourself clearly enough, calmly enough, kindly enough, eventually the other person will meet you there.

At some point you realize peace is not found in winning every disagreement. Sometimes it’s found in no longer needing to participate in the conversation at all.
