Coco’s Corner šŸ’›

I took this photo on the first evening of 2026; the very first sunset of the year. At the time, it didn’t feel symbolic or profound. It was quiet. Just another day ending. But I remember standing there longer than I normally would have.

I think as you get older, you stop needing every meaningful moment to announce itself. You realize some of the most important shifts in your life happen quietly. A conversation that changes your perspective. A boundary you learn to keep. A peaceful evening you don’t rush through. A realization that you’re no longer living with the same urgency you once did.

That’s what this sunset reminds me of now.

Not the beginning of a year, but the feeling of finally understanding that life is not built in the big dramatic moments people post about. It’s built in the ordinary days you were present enough to notice while they were happening. And honestly, I think that kind of awareness is its own form of gratitude.

Have you ever noticed how much energy people spend trying to be understood by people who have already decided not to understand them. When I was younger, I probably did some of that myself. You think if you explain yourself clearly enough, calmly enough, kindly enough, eventually the other person will meet you there.

At some point you realize peace is not found in winning every disagreement. Sometimes it’s found in no longer needing to participate in the conversation at all.

Memorial Day isn’t just a long weekend. It’s a time to remember the men and women who gave their lives serving this country and the families they left behind.
Behind every flag at a cemetery is a story cut short: the life of someone who never made it home.

Freedom has always come at a cost paid by real people, and today is a reminder to pause with gratitude and remember their sacrifice. Today, I’m thinking of those who served and never returned home. May they never be forgotten.

There’s something about being out on the water with a group like this that always makes me smile. Everyone settles in a little differently. Someone’s talking, someone’s quiet, someone’s just watching everything go by. No one needs the same thing from the moment, and somehow it all works anyway.

I was looking around at this crew and thinking how different they all are, and how easy it still feels when we’re all in the same place at the same time. You don’t really notice that until you do.

Most people don’t come in with everything figured out. They come in with questions, sometimes with a lot of them - as they should. Taking the time to walk through those questions without rushing is part of the process.

Confidence doesn’t come from having documents in place, it comes from understanding what you’ve put in place. If you’ve been wanting to feel more sure about this, it’s probably time to take the next step.

Coloradans picked ā€œColorado Connector,ā€ or ā€œCoCo,ā€ as the name for the future Front Range passenger rail train that is planned to link communities from Fort Collins to Pueblo.

I had to laugh when I saw that... Sounds familiar right? šŸ™ƒ I don’t know how the project will actually play out, but the idea of getting from Fort Collins to Denver without dealing with traffic is pretty appealing.

Time will tell, but I’ll be paying attention to this one.

Coco’s Corner šŸ’›
For my birthday week last month, my daughter and niece planned an extravagant birthday celebration at Lake Oconee in Georgia. All my favorite relatives together for a week of celebration! I was beyond excited.
The week before we left, I had what I thought was a pretty great idea. My nephew had just been accepted to play tennis at The Citadel, and the excitement around that started my brain thinking. I had gone with my grandson, Lincoln, to the Air Force Academy last year. He is a cadet in Civil Air Patrol. So before our trip, I reached out to him to see what he thought about taking a tour of The Citadel while we were in Georgia. He said "YES" right away. I was so excited thinking about just the two of us touring The Citadel. How special that would be.

I was all in. I started looking at dates, worked through the details, and booked our tour of The Citadel. I could already see it; walking the campus together, watching what he noticed, being part of that moment when things start to feel real and he could see into his future.

Then I paused and thought, "perhaps I should check with his parents and see if they wanted to go". So I did. And of course they did want to go. They were both ā€œALL INā€.

Then there was a sweet moment where wisdom took over. That's when I decided that perhaps it wasn't my place to go with Lincoln. It wasn’t my moment to hold. That trip belonged to the three of them.

There’s a quiet kind of love in knowing when to step back, even when every part of you wants to step in. Not because you matter less, but because you understand what matters more. And as much as I wanted to go, I knew I had done exactly the right thing. šŸ’›

Local markets are opening. The Larimer County Farmers’ Market starts up this Saturday. It’s one of those markets that is a breath of fresh air and I end up walking through longer than I planned. The Larimer County Farmers' Market has been around for 50 years now. That is a sign that it Is pretty special. Places like that don’t stick around unless they are worth the effort and people show up for them. Maybe I'll catch you wandering through the market on a Saturday morning in Old Town.
