Tomorrow, the January issue of Real Estate Magazine will be distributed to REAL ESTATE MAGAZINE boxes, Realty offices, post offices, markets, and all kinds of other businesses throughout the county where you can pick up your copy.
This is issue number eight hundred and one (801!!!). The magazine is going into its fortieth year of publication since Chuck Hathaway and Camille Ranker decided they wanted to get into the Real Estate publishing game. FORTY YEARS!!! I bought it from Chuck in 2010 and since then, it's been monthly deadlines that come around pretty fast, wonderful people and stories to discover, research, write about, and/or solicit the writing and edit those stories, and after all that, I get to go into the trance of designing and executing the covers (see them all at www.realestatemendocino.com --fifteen years' worth!) and putting together the jigsaw puzzle of the inside pages of editorial content interspersed with the ads. This involves gathering information, collaborating, editing, proofs and corrections zooming back and forth, endless emails with Lisa and Joe, and enjoying the heck out of all of it, even when I feel like curling up with a good book or an old movie instead. A deadline is a deadline is a deadline.
This month's cover story is about the amazing, stupendous, spectacular, breathtaking, marvelous, magical CircusMecca...my conversation with Bones Newstead illuminates so many things I didn't know before! You will be mesmerized!
Go find your paper copy soon, before they get snatched up! Or you can read it on our website as of NOW!!
When I first bought the magazine, we were doing, I think, about 7000 copies a month. Tomorrow we will cover the county with 12,000! Read by locals and visitors alike, REM is now the biggest publication in the county, a premier place, by the way, to advertise your business or event.
As it says above the masthead:
FOR HOME OWNERS, HOME BUYERS, HOME DREAMERS, AND THE BUSINESSES THAT SUPPORT AND SERVE THEM!
That's, basically, EVERYBODY! And we ARE looking for advertisers, just so you know. The ads are what keep the whole thing afloat while supporting our local business community in response. It's a great big circle of support: a community-building resource, a marketplace, a trove of discovery about our place, and really, I have to say it: a love fest.
