As we get closer and closer to the new year, it is time to start thinking about your 2016 Tax Returns. The IRS has had a few changes this year:

1) The IRS will start accepting returns on January 23rd.
2) For those people that claim the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit, the new law requires the IRS to wait on issuing refunds for those returns until February 15th.

The IRS will not issue a partial refund, but will hold the entire refund until February 15th, as an additional measure to ensure taxpayers receive the refund they are due.

Can't wait for January 23rd!

There is a wonderful tool the IRS gives people to check the status of their refunds. California has one too. It's a simple Google search of where is my refund and you'll get the correct site. Or, you could follow this link: irs.gov/refunds

There is only 12 days until returns are due! Call or email with any questions you might have!

When the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund, you can see your actual personalized refund date. Even though the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days after we receive your tax return, it’s possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer.

1/28/16 - Date CA FTB expects to release their Personal Income Tax return Form.
2/2/16 - Date employers need to mail W-2's to employees.

Final Tip: The College Access Credit is a fantastic tax strategy. You get the full deduction on your Federal Return for the charitable contribution, and get a 55% credit on your California Return. It ends up giving at most a 94% return (on your combined tax returns) on the donation.

Updates for the 2015 Tax Season: First, Happy Holidays! Second, Tax Season officially ends on April 18th this year. IRS is observing a holiday on April 15th.
Third: IRS has changed the due dates for some returns: All pass-through returns (Partnerships, S-Corps, LLC's) are due on March 15. Corporations and Individuals are due April 15. California has not yet adjusted the due dates, so California Corporations are still due March 15th.
Don't hesitate to contact us for last minute tax strategies!

Thank you to everyone for such a fantastic (and busy!) Tax Season! Just because it's April 15, doesn't mean you still can't contact your Tax Professional for questions you might have, or projections to get an estimate of your tax liability for 2015.
