An Edina man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting outside an apartment complex that triggered lockdowns at Southdale Center and nearby buildings on Wednesday afternoon.

Elevoun Quinnell Wren, 22, was charged in Hennepin County District Court for the shooting Wednesday, April 22 in the 3300 block of W. 66th Street in Edina. Officers responded around 12:25 p.m. and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the criminal complaint, surveillance footage shows Wren arrived at the apartment complex around 12:15 p.m. in a grey Kia K5. He went inside the building and, about eight minutes later, he exited with the victim, the court documents say.

As the two walked through the parking lot toward the Kia, Wren produced a firearm and allegedly shot the victim multiple times. The victim fell to the ground and Wren stood over him, firing additional shots before getting back into the car and fleeing.

Officers located the grey Kia K5 around 12:50 p.m. near W. 62nd Street and Xerxes Avenue South in Edina. Three occupants were taken into custody, including Wren. The other two individuals have not been formally charged.

A 45-year-old man is in a coma after a daytime assault in south Minneapolis and investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying a person seen near the attack.

The assault happened at about 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, near the intersection of East Franklin Avenue and 22nd Avenue South.

Minneapolis police say the victim was struck in the head multiple times with a log during the attack, causing severe injuries that left him hospitalized in critical condition.

Detectives assigned to the department’s Assault Unit have continued investigating in the weeks since, but no arrests have been made as of publication.

Investigators released an image of a man they say was observed in the area at the time of the assault and are asking anyone who recognizes him to come forward. Police have not said what led up to the incident or whether the victim and the person pictured knew each other.

Authorities say even small details could help move the case forward as detectives work to identify those responsible for the attack.

MINNEAPOLIS: 28xx Pillsbury Ave. S. — Federal ICE agents requested assistance after a large group of protesters surrounded them and were reportedly assaulting agents while blocking their vehicles in the street. The agents were attempting to leave the area but were unable to move due to the crowd. Minneapolis police responded and were ordered to disengage after officials determined there were no active threats. Other agencies were sent in to help with crowd control and an ambulance was staged nearby in case of injuries.

UPDATE: The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office says around 1:13 p.m., the emergency communications center received a call for immediate assistance from the Department of Homeland Security. The caller said agents were surrounded and "being attacked" by "60-70 agitators" near 29th St. West and Pillsbury Ave. in Minneapolis. Due to the urgency and nature of the request, HCSO sent deputies to the scene.

"Upon arrival, our deputies did not witness any attacks or any agents needing medical attention. There was a crowd blocking federal agents from leaving and our deputies helped federal agents leave the scene. At that point, our deputies cleared. HCSO deputies did not make any arrests, use any force, deploy any chemical irritants, or use any other crowd control devices," the sheriff's office said in a written statement.

A teenage boy was shot and killed late Sunday night in Minneapolis, and another juvenile is in custody as investigators work to determine what led up to the gunfire.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said officers were called just before 10:50 p.m. to the 2900 block of Russell Avenue North for a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a boy dead in the basement of the home. Initial reports to 911 indicated the shooting may have been self-inflicted, but police later learned the victim may have been shot by another teenager who was also at the house.

O’Hara said a group of juveniles had gathered in the basement to celebrate a birthday when a gun went off, striking the victim once and killing him. The juvenile who allegedly fired the shot was taken into custody at the scene. Police have not yet confirmed the victim’s age or identity.

Minneapolis Police forensic scientists processed the scene overnight, and investigators were seeking a search warrant to search the home. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded.

O’Hara said the incident remains under investigation to determine whether the shooting was accidental or intentional. “As a father myself, I cannot imagine what it would be like to go through crime and violence to your child like this,” he said. “We are working to determine exactly the circumstances of what occurred and to bring whoever is responsible to justice if this is in fact a homicide.”
