Scam Alert: Don’t dial with a voice-controlled device. Ask Siri for answers. Ask Google Home to set your thermostat or ask Alexa to play your favorite song. According to consumer reporter Steve Noviello you should never ask your AI assistant to look up and then dial a number. The Better Business Bureau reports scammers are starting to exploit that feature by working the system to bump their fake number for their fake company to the top of search engines often by paying for an ad. Your smart system is not smart enough to know the difference. You end up getting in contact with a customer service representative who then tries to extract personal information and payment information from you to use fraudulently. These results might very well be appearing on the top of your search results now so look for the word “ad” and be aware. Use contact information from an actual website.
