As families get ready for the new school year, our team at Pascaris Law wants to help keep your children safe on their way to and from school. A few reminders can go a long way in preventing accidents and ensuring a smoother start to the year.
Walking to school?
• Use sidewalks whenever available
• Cross only at marked crosswalks
• Make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the road
• Walk with others when possible
Riding a bike?
• Always wear a properly fitted helmet
• Ride with traffic on the right side of the road
• Stop completely before crossing
• Choose low‑traffic routes whenever possible
Taking the bus?
• Stand several feet back from the curb
• Wait for the bus to stop fully before approaching
• Avoid walking in front of or behind the bus unless the driver signals it's safe
Getting dropped off?
• Follow school zone speed limits
• Stick to your school’s drop‑off procedures
• Never pass a bus that is loading or unloading children
Teen drivers?
• Reinforce seatbelts for all passengers
• Keep devices put away while driving
• Follow posted speed limits and school zone rules
