Bio

Kabara is counsel at Maddox & Gerock, PC. Prior to joining Maddox & Gerock, Kabara worked at another boutique family law firm in Northern Virginia for over 6 years. Kabara works to make sure her clients understand the process, the goal, and the strategy, during a time that can often feel overwhelming or daunting.

Kabara has experience working on all types of family law issues and leading clients through custody, support, property/debt division, divorce, modifications, and enforcement actions and tailors her approach to each specific case. Some cases are able to resolve amicably with simple negotiation or mediation, others may require extensive litigation and use of numerous experts – most cases fall somewhere in the middle. Recent interesting issues Kabara has dealt with include fault-based divorce (criminal conviction, adultery, and abuse), special-needs children (including decision-making and financial issues), valuing business interests, CPS family assessments, and unequal division of retirement benefits in lieu of receiving spousal support.

Kabara moved to the DC area in 2008 to attend law school at Georgetown University Law Center, where she received the pro bono certificate for completing over 350 hours of volunteer legal services. While at Georgetown, Kabara interned at Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), working with LGBT and HIV-positive service members facing court martial and discharge, and clerked for the Honorable Laura A. Cordero of the DC Superior Court, gaining experience on issues of adoption, civil commitment, and cases involving CPS.

Prior to law school, Kabara graduated from the University of Chicago in 2007 where she received a degree in History. She grew up in Texas (Houston) and Indiana (Bloomington). Kabara currently lives in Maryland with her husband, daughter, and dog. When not at the office, Kabara enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and all things nerdy.
