Tax Update - today the new stimulus bill was passed and should be signed this week by the President. There are some tax aspects of the bill. One very important one relates to Unemployment. If you received unemployment in 2020 you may be entitled to exempt up to $10,200 in payments from taxes. As this just passed, the IRS has not had a chance to updates forms nor is it clear what states will do. If you haven't filed, hold off sending in your returns if this applies to you. If you have already filed, you will be able to amend your return in the future.
If you are my client and already have filed, I will be reaching out to you shortly to discuss.
As always, let me know if you have questions.
Rick

The IRS is still insisting that taxpayers can't dedut expenses that were covered by PPP. This could cause a big tax bite for some unless the new administration makes adjustments after the first of the year.

The IRS issued guidance for taxpayers who pay otherwise deductible expenses with PPP loan funds, stating that even if the payment and PPP loan forgiveness happen in different tax years, the expenses are not deductible.

Is your Will outdated? Do you have a Will?
Without a valid Will the state or the courts, not you, could determine who gets your assets or who is your Executor.
Have you prepared a Health Care Proxy/Living Will that describes what life-saving medical care you want – or don’t want? Do you have a Power of Attorney (POA) allowing someone to tend to your financial needs if you are unable to due to medical reasons?
I’m Richard Doe, Esq. I have over 25 years of experience preparing individual and corporate taxes and over 10 years of experience preparing these documents. I can assist you with protecting your assets and saving your family the unnecessary burden of not having your Will. Living Will or POA.
My fees are very reasonable. For an individual, the cost for a Will is typically $125 and $200 for a married couple. For all three documents my fees start at $275 for an individual and $450 for a couple.
Call, text or email me today to set up an appointment or with any questions. I offer home pick-up and delivery and most of the work can be done remotely.
I can be reached at [email protected] or 585-507-7035.

I have had a number of my clients ask if their elderly parents had to file a return to get the stimulus if they only get social security and aren't required to file. The answer is no. The IRS stated that if you get Social Security and weren't required to file a return that you will still get the stimulus in your bank account.
Take care all, we are all in this together!

For those of you that already filed your 1040 with the IRS and owed and set it up to come out of your bank account on April 15th, you can get it moved to come out on July 15 - or any date prior to July 15th. If you had a CPA prepare them you can simply call the US Treasury Financial Agent directly at 888-353-4537. Must do it no later than 2 days before it is scheduled to come out.
