Fairfield's "Revaluation Notice of Assessment" letters have been confusing a lot of Town Property Owners. They discuss a "Hearing" in bold writing. What they are referring to is an informal call with Tyler Technologies, the private company hired by the Town to conduct the Townwide Revaluation. Many people receiving this notice have been confused into thinking they only have until January 9th to appeal their new Assessment - this is incorrect. The official deadline to appeal to the Fairfield Board of Assessment Appeals is February 20th (as mentioned later in the notice).
If you believe that Tyler Technologies improperly described your property on your field card (i.e. got your square footage or number of bedrooms wrong), then it absolutely makes sense to schedule an informal call with them to correct your property data. You have until January 9th to schedule this call.
If you want to challenge the Town's new valuation of your property, you have until February 20th to file an official appeal with the Board of Assessment Appeals (the "BAA"), where you will have the opportunity to make your argument to your fellow Town Residents who were elected to the BAA. Property Owners may file an appeal themselves, or if you would like help, please contact the Attorneys at Russo & Rizio and we would be happy to assist you.
