Auñón recieved his first Law degree from the University of Havana. Later, he obtained a law degree from the American University Washington College of Law and a master degree of Comparative Law from George Washington University. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar. Admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Virginia, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Auñon has been in general practice in Northern Virginia since 1974 with emphasis in the following areas:
