Today our “Meet the Team” spotlight is on our Billing Assistant, Daphne Encarnacion! Daphne joined CGG in 2023 as an administrative support assistant, but it feels as though she has always been a part of our team!

1. Daphne, you spent 20 years at State Farm before joining CGG — what's the biggest lesson that experience taught you?

I would have to say that bigger isn’t always better. I always thought I would retire with State Farm, but life had other plans for me. I took off several years to stay home with my son after he was born. I decided to come back to work a little over 3 years ago and so happy that I found my CGG work family. I love working with these incredible people each day. They are all just good humans with the largest hearts!

2. Do you have a favorite local winery, and, if so, what do you order when you're there?

Bluemont Vineyard would be my favorite at the moment. The views are breathtaking. I usually get the 2024 Rosé “The Donkey” or their Farm Table Red is really good too.

3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

To enjoy the little things in life and to slow down and take time for myself once in a while. Self-care is a must!

On October 14, 2026, CGG attorneys Kristen Kugel and Alex Lewis participated in Virginia Continuing Legal Education (VACLE)'s 45th Annual Family Law Seminar.

Alex presented Lawyers Controlling the Money: Avoiding Less Obvious Problematic Behavior, sharing valuable insights with fellow family law practitioners.

Kristen (who serves as chairperson of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section Board of Governors) moderated throughout the day's program.

Kristen and Alex were honored to be part of this longstanding educational program and enjoyed the opportunity to engage with colleagues from across Virginia's family law community while discussing important issues affecting the practice.

Under Virginia law, adultery can serve as a complete bar to spousal support. However, you must prove the adultery by clear and convincing evidence, which is a high burden of proof.

In addition, even if adultery is proven, the court can still award spousal support if denying it would be “manifestly unjust” based on the relative degrees of fault of both parties during the marriage and the economic circumstances of the parties.

CGG partner Kristen Kugel was honored to serve as a judge for the final round of this year's Thacher Intramural Trial Advocacy Competition hosted by Antonin Scalia Law School on Friday, October 2nd. The final round was hosted at the Arlington County Circuit Court and the Honorable Daniel S. Fiore, II of the Arlington County Circuit Court presided.

The talent, preparation, and professionalism displayed by these future advocates was truly impressive.

Congratulations to the finalists for their outstanding performances and to the Scalia Law Trial Advocacy Association for putting on another great competition!
