Happy Friday! Today we are excited to spotlight Stephanie Smith.

1. How long have you been practicing family law, and what drew you to this particular area of law?

I have been practicing law for almost 18 years. I was drawn to family law after my 2L internship at the Fairfax County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, and then I was fortunate enough to start as a Law Clerk at CGG that summer.

2. What was your first job?

I worked retail at the Gap when I was 16.

3. What do you do on weekends to unwind after a busy work week?

Most weekends I am cheering on my kids at their events – soccer, flag football, basketball, and horse shows!

4. If you could have dinner with anyone – living or historical – who would it be and why?

Catherine O’Hara, because she was so wildly funny and completely unassuming about it. I imagine dinner would be full of laughter, but also a real conversation.

CGG is excited to introduce our Summer 2026 interns!

Payton Davis graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in History and a BS in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences, and is currently a 3L at The George Washington University Law School. She previously clerked/interned for the District of Columbia Superior Court and The Children's Law Center.

Kaelin Arnett earned a BA in Public Relations from Northwestern University (where she played Varsity Women's Soccer for 4 years), and is currently an evening law student at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. Kaelin previously worked as a Legislative Correspondent for Senator Chuck Grassley.

Next up in our spotlight is Adriana!

1. You served as a Child Advocate through the Guardian ad Litem Program in Greenville, NC. What did you find the most challenging about your role? The most rewarding?

During my role as a GAL, I found that entering unfamiliar environments for the first time could feel both challenging and intimidating. Whether it was homes, schools, or group homes, I often didn’t know what to expect. I learned to step outside of my comfort zone, and take initiative, and I’m grateful for that experience.

2. Before you joined Cooper Ginsberg Gray, you were thinking about pursuing a law degree. Have you changed your mind after working in a family law firm?

Before joining Cooper Ginsberg Gray, I had been going back and forth about whether I wanted to pursue a law degree. Working at CGG has really helped clarify that interest. I recently had the opportunity to shadow Ms. Kugel during a very interesting trial, and seeing how professionally and gracefully she handled the case — along with the strong relationship she had with her client — really reinforced my interest in the legal field. I am excited to continue exploring that path.

3. What do you do on weekends to unwind after a busy work week?

After a busy work week, I like to use my weekends to slow down and recharge—taking time to rest, walk my dog, explore a bit, and really enjoy the moment.

4. What is one thing that your CGG colleagues might be surprised to learn about you?

My colleagues may be surprised to learn that I’m a lifelong Commanders and Hokies fan!
