Sooooo taking this opportunity to remind folks you have to stop for a school bus! I watched the car next to bus come speeding up behind stopped bus, almost hit the bus, and then finally stopped way it is in photo when me and car behind it honked at it! The driver was clueless and/or not paying attention. With schools back in session with summer ending and virtual school not being a thing like it was during the pandemic, the school bus issue is a real thing. In addition to risking a child being injured, you are risking a traffic or criminal charge. Slow down, when you approach a school bus stop unless or until you are sure you are clear to go!

Time to slow down or you risk losing driver's license or having to use an app or device to monitor your speed.

Judges in Virginia will soon be able to order reckless drivers convicted of going over 100 miles an hour to install speed-limiting technology in their vehicles.

I may have had the worst day in a while for a lot of reasons...one thing after another today.

A former client of mine who's husband was abusive and charged her a while back just called me.
We beat the bogus charges against her. And her cases were expunged. I had referred her to an awesome immigration attorney Ofelia Calderon to help with her immigration case.
She got her citizenship a year or so ago and called tonight to thank me bc she is seeing what is going on with ice and folks who are not legal or who aren't US citizens.

Her husband threw all her clothes and jewelry and photos and books away which she is sad about but she is more excited that she has her freedom and is a US citizen.

And to think she took time out to think of me when she had been through so much and had to start over....well I'm not crying (or I plead the 5th), you're crying!!!

I was so worried when she called that something had happened....must be the defense attorney in me. We usually only get the call when something bad happens!

We don't always get to hear the good that happens after a case is done or a client moves. But wow she called at the right time as I worry about so many in world right now.

One second. One day. One minute. One client at a time. We can all be grateful for today! ♥️⚖️

It was an interesting week. Last night I attended portrait unveilings for 5 retired Judges. Tonight, I got to attend the investiture of someone who was truly meant to be on the bench. Judge Wilson will be an amazing judge. Fairfax lost out on an opportunity to have him on our bench but Stafford was lucky to get him. Attending events after a long week is always a struggle but this one was an easy decision. We will miss him but we all wish him the best! And a huge shout out to the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office who had a ton of folks from their office travel down there to Stafford today....it just goes to show how loved and respected he was as a mentor and colleague in their office!
