I just talked to a gentleman who was called about a debt from 2003, which he did not recognize and disputed. Please learn to recognize these high pressure artists for what they are: scammers. It's highly likely any real debt from that long ago is barred by the statute of limitations, but they are trying to get you to either cough up money to "settle" or to revitalize the debt by having you acknowledge it as currently owing. DON'T DO IT. No matter if they threaten to lien your house (which they can't do without a judgment) or send in a report to the credit agencies (which you could dispute)
The only way they could currently collect the debt is if they have a judgment already AND it has been properly renewed. Tell them to produce a judgement, or take you off their list.

Getting a call from a debt collector can be stressful.

Once the late pays stop being reported, the credit score starts improving. More importantly, the Debtor can start living by a budget and getting their financial house in order.

You’ve received a warrant by fax or email saying a federal law enforcement officer or an attorney for the government wants to arrest you. Charges may be for money laundering or bank fraud, or missed jury duty. To avoid arrest, the warrant says, send money.

The California Homestead is going up if the Governor signs the bill. The new homestead amount will be based on the median sale price for the county you live in, up to $600,000. So if you live in LA or San Francisco, your much more likely to be able to save your house from creditors.

The new California homestead law protects $300,000 to as much as $600,000 in equity, regardless of the homeowner's age or marital status.

My expectations regarding scammers is, unfortunately, confirmed.

Please share: The CDC has become aware that members of the general public are receiving calls appearing to originate from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (or CDC) through caller ID, or they are receiving scammer voice mail messages saying the caller is from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some calls are requesting donations.

These calls are a scam and are referred to as “government impersonation fraud,” meaning criminals are impersonating government officials for nefarious purposes. Scammers are becoming more sophisticated and organized in their approach.
