Twenty-two years ago, I knew it was time to bet on myself.
I was in a not-so-great work environment, and while I didn’t go to law school dreaming of having my own practice, God had been working on me for a few years. It was time to make a change, take a risk, and build something of my own.
I’ve never looked back. Never regretted a day. (Okay, I’ve regretted a day or two. This work is HARD. 😂) But I’ve never seriously considered closing up shop.
Until last year.
I had an opportunity to make some pretty significant changes this year. And after a season of more loss than I ever could have anticipated, I took a hard look at what I really wanted.
Turns out, I want to finish my work life right where I am.
I love the life I’ve built. I love the work, the independence, the schedule, the pace. I love that I get to do this work on my terms.
Will I slow down someday? Absolutely. I’m not interested in running myself into the ground just to prove I can.
But I don’t need a whole new life. I just need to keep refining the one I’ve built. A little paring back. A little more intention. More of what matters and less of what doesn’t.
Sometimes growth looks like making a big, bold change.
And sometimes it looks like finally recognizing that what you’ve built is exactly what you want.
Twenty-two years in, I’m grateful I took the leap. And even more grateful I get to decide what the next chapter looks like. ❤️
