California just made history as the first state to formally address AI's impact on the workforce.

Governor Newsom's executive order takes aim at a question employment lawyers are already fielding from clients: what happens to workers when AI displaces their jobs? The order directs state agencies to review the WARN Act, establish severance standards, expand retraining programs, and create real-time tracking of hiring and payroll trends.

Sexual harassment in the workplace can have a devastating impact on a person's career, finances, and emotional well-being. One of the most common questions we hear is: "How much is a sexual harassment case worth?"

The answer depends on many factors, including the severity of the harassment, whether there was retaliation, lost wages, emotional distress, and the strength of the evidence. Every case is different.

If you believe you have been subjected to sexual harassment at work, it is important to understand your rights and the legal options available to you.

In this blog, we break down the types of compensation employees may be able to recover in California wrongful termination cases and some of the major factors that can affect settlement and verdict amounts.

If you believe you were fired illegally, understanding your rights matters.

Another major tech company has announced significant layoffs as it restructures around AI. Meta is reportedly cutting about 8,000 jobs, roughly 10% of its workforce, while shifting resources toward AI initiatives.

Here’s something employees should know: just because a company calls something a “layoff” does not automatically mean every termination decision is beyond legal scrutiny. Employers still cannot make layoff selections based on retaliation, discrimination, protected leave, whistleblowing, wage complaints, or other unlawful factors.

Headlines tell one story. The facts behind who was selected and why often tell another.

A former Bay Area immigration judge is suing the Department of Justice after allegedly being terminated just before receiving tenure. The lawsuit alleges the firing was tied to political views, immigrant advocacy work, age, and gender discrimination during the Trump administration’s ongoing reshaping of immigration courts.

According to reports, more than 100 immigration judges have been terminated or pushed out since 2025, with lawsuits alleging that judges viewed as “DEI hires” or connected to immigrant advocacy organizations were disproportionately targeted.

Regardless of politics, employees should not lose their jobs because of protected characteristics, protected speech, or perceived ideology.

Too many California employees are having 30 minutes automatically deducted from their paychecks for meal breaks they never actually received.

Automatic meal deduction policies can create serious wage and hour violations when employees are still working through lunch, answering calls, staying on duty, or unable to take uninterrupted breaks. California law gives employees the right to proper meal periods, and employers can face significant liability when those rights are ignored.

Some workplace violations are so common in certain industries that employees start to think they’re just “part of the job.” They’re not.

Restaurant workers missing breaks. Retail employees working off the clock. Healthcare workers denied overtime. Construction workers facing retaliation after speaking up.

We put together a breakdown of some of the most common California employment law violations by industry and what workers should know about their rights.

If you work in California, there’s a good chance you’ve experienced at least one of these issues firsthand.
