CA Bar Style

CA Bar Style CA Bar Style is a full service CA Bar Exam tutoring company that offers in-classroom and personal tut WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO PASS?

CA Bar Style specializes in teaching first-time and repeat CA bar takers how to put the CA Bar behind them once and for all. Specifically, we focus on how to write for the essay and performance test portions of the CA Bar Exam in an intimate and personalized course setting and guide applicants on becoming a "triple threat" for all three areas of the exam. We also offer online and phone conferencin

g services. If you are a repeater of the CA Bar Exam and are feeling disheartened, unmotivated and in need of a tutor and guide to give you the edge and motivation you need to pass, you have come to the right place. Our services focus on all three areas of the exam, but our specialty is the essay and performance test portions, specifically how to write for the exam and develop an organized and concise essay that will gain you a passing bar answer. Most repeaters who come to us from other courses have lacked guidance on how to organize and analyze a bar essay answer that will show Examiners that they are ready to become attorneys in California. We know what it takes to give the CA Bar Examiners exactly what they are looking for from applicants and look forward to working with each student in order to reach their goal of passing the exam. WHAT IS "BAR STYLE"

“Bar Style” stands for the level of writing and analysis which is expected from a CA Bar applicant. The CA Bar Examiners are known to be looking for a particular analysis and style of writing that is distinct from your law school exams and essays. You will have three hours to complete three essays on both Tuesday and Thursday morning, each of which will be filled with complex legal issues and some essays will also overlap with multiple areas of law. Thus, as a bar taker, you will need to know how to deliver, in a timely fashion, an organized analysis that illustrates your knowledge of the law and it’s application to all of the facts presented. You will also need to know how to organize your essay with the proper headings and writing styles that the Examiners are looking for. Our personalized methods will thoroughly prepare you tackle the writing portion of the CA Bar, make you feel at ease in a timed setting and ready for any curve balls the CA Bar will throw at you, which they always do. Whether you are a first-time taker straight out of law school, a repeater, working full-time, a mother, father, an out-of-state attorney or foreign applicant, we will work closely and personally with you to be your guide on your path to putting the CA Bar behind you.

Three administrations left.
February 2027. July 2027. February 2028.
The California Supreme Court has approved replacing the current General Bar Exam with the NextGen UBE beginning July 2028. February 2028 is the final sitting with California essays and the 90-minute Performance Test.
If you’re preparing right now, that isn’t bad news. You’re studying the most documented version of this exam there will ever be — decades of released essays, known scoring, known timing. That record is exactly what my method was built on.
The people I worry about are the ones planning to sit out a cycle to regroup.
Two starts open:
→ September 8 — a few spots left
→ October 5 — enroll by then and get immediate course access
Free 30-minute consult and I’ll tell you honestly which of the three exams you should be taking.

🚨 BREAKING: JULY 2026 NATIONAL MBE MEAN DROPS 1.7 POINTS 🚨

The NCBE just released the numbers.

The July 2026 national MBE mean scaled score was 140.7, down from 142.4 in July 2025.

That’s a 1.7 point drop in just one year.

What’s the takeaway?

The MBE is not something you master by simply doing thousands of questions. Strong performance requires knowledge of the law, question recognition, reading comprehension, application, timing and strategy.

And those skills take time and repetition to develop.

After almost 17 years as a Bar Exam expert, one of the biggest mistakes I see applicants make is waiting until traditional Bar Prep to figure out whether their MBE approach is actually working.

Start earlier. Diagnose your weaknesses. Build the skills now.

🚨 CALIFORNIA BAR EXAM FACT

Did you know that 62.9% of the applicants who sat for the February 2026 California Bar Exam were REPEAT TAKERS?

Even more eye-opening:

📚 Repeat taker pass rate: 23.1%
📚 First-time taker pass rate: 43.9%
📚 The average repeat taker had already attempted the exam 4.2 times

The takeaway?

Simply taking the Bar Exam again is not a strategy.

If you are repeating the exam, you need to identify why you didn’t pass and make meaningful changes to your preparation, whether that’s your knowledge of the law, MBE performance, writing, issue spotting, timing, memorization or exam-day ex*****on.

Don’t repeat your preparation. Change it.

⚖️ CAN 5 TO 15 HOURS A WEEK OF EARLY BAR PREP REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

1,000 x 1,000,000% YES. 😂

After almost 17 years as a Bar Exam expert, I can tell you that while there are applicants who are naturally strong test takers and can prepare successfully in a shorter period, that is simply not the reality for most applicants.

Especially if you are a repeat taker, working applicant, parent, foreign trained applicant, attorney applicant, or someone who needs more time to master the skills this exam requires.

Every administration I see applicants run out of time. They are still learning the law when they should be practicing. They barely get to Performance Tests. They have not had enough exposure to essays. And then they are forced to rely heavily on predictions because they simply cannot get to everything.

Starting early gives you time. And time gives you options.

But there is another piece to this. It is not JUST about starting early. What you do with that extra time matters tremendously. I’ll be talking about that next.

⚖️ ARE OPEN-BOOK LAW SCHOOL EXAMS HURTING BAR PREPARATION?

After almost 17 years of teaching the California Bar Exam, I’m noticing a growing challenge: applicants accustomed to open-book law school exams may enter Bar Prep without fully developing the rapid recall, timing, issue-spotting, and analytical skills needed on exam day.

Knowing where to find the law is very different from being able to retrieve it, recognize the issue, and apply it quickly under pressure.

And memorization alone isn’t enough. Applicants need exposure practice—seeing the many different ways the same areas of law can be tested.

Learn → Understand → Memorize → Retrieve → Issue Spot → Apply → Repeat.

⚖️ JULY 2026 BAR EXAM: MY PRELIMINARY ESSAY RECAP

The July exam reinforced three major lessons for future applicants:

1️⃣ EXPOSURE PRACTICE MATTERS. Simply learning and memorizing the law is NOT enough. You need strategy, approach, and exposure to the many different ways the same area of law can be tested. A seasoned Bar Exam tutor should be able to guide you through those variations. Don’t assume that issue spotting 3–4 essays in a subject means you’ve seen enough—some of my applicants issue spot 10–15 essays per subject or area to build that exposure. The more variations you see, the less likely you are to be blindsided on exam day.

2️⃣ STOP RELYING SOLELY ON PREDICTIONS. Predictions can help streamline your final review, but they should never replace comprehensive preparation. Give yourself enough time so you aren’t cramming and gambling on a handful of subjects.

3️⃣ KNOW THE MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES. Don’t prepare only for the “big-ticket” rules. Less frequently tested sub-issues can appear—and when they do, they can pack a big punch.

The takeaway? Start earlier. Practice more broadly. Stop cramming.
