Issue 1 opinion: No.
Nobody has asked me my opinion, so like a lawyer I am compelled to share one. Not only do I have the insight of an attorney who has worked now in criminal defense and prosecution, but I have also worked closely with recovery housing in Lorain County. While I will be first in line to agree that drug possession should not be a felony act (the fact that it is a felony is of literally no persuasion to an individual deciding to purchase/possess/use heroine/cocaine/crack/etc.), this is not the solution. My personal concern is that it is a constitutional amendment. That means that in order to modify or change it will require a complicated process of resolution, approval, then another ballot vote. Simply put, it's a poor solution to a real problem that we will be stuck with in spite of serious short comings (ie, possession of 19 grams of fentanyl is much more indicative of trafficking than addiction but a misdemeanor under the statute). That's my take, in case you wondered, or didn't. www.oliverlegalservices.com Thanks! Happy voting!
